So SAD. :boohoo:
My 10th anniversary. Have big plans. :banghead:
Tycer,
We completely understand the big 10 is important to any married family. I live east of Asheville almost to the Black Mountain. I will do my best to take plenty of pictures of the event so you can put a face with the screen names you see here. Thank you for posting your interest in this event. I don't know how far along you are in Straights but if you need any help or just want to get your razors honed feel free to PM me and I will see what I can do to help.
Kevin
Kevin,
Can you give me the address to your barber? I'm going to be in the area for a seminar in 2 weeks and would like to swing by and get a shave while I'm there. Thanks.
Warpiper sent me a pm saying he will be there.
Now somebody needs to send him the address of the barber! :)
Warpiper
Sorry for the delay I was spending time with SWMBO, Here is his card. Haywood Rd is on west I-240. At the end of the ramp you need to head west about 150 - 175 yards Shop is on the south side of the road. He is located across the street from a large church in a small white building. Look for the Barber pole out front. I will take a picture of the shop next week.
IMPORTANT NOTE: I would recomend You bring your own brush when getting a shave. Alan has hot foam but I like the cream and brush better. NC. State Law says he can use soap/ Cream with a disposal brush or the customers brush Since he does not stock brushes BYOB.

Glad to know you are coming this is shaping up very well. I am sure that there will be many learning experiences and stories to tell after this one. You did note it will be going on for 2 days?
Kevin
I am thinking I will be able to go to this as it is the weekend before finals start. PM for location?
Moosiker just sent me a PM asking for more info. He may post in here soon. :)
Several have asked about being able to buy, sell or trade items.
Here's my thoughts....
Don't go with the intention of selling your gear only. It may not sell and I dont want anyone discouraged. However if you're there and someone wants something you have, Great. So long as everyone is happy happy happy.
I personally don't have any issue with Buying Selling and Trading while there because this is a meetup and people are traveling a long way and should have every option we can afford them. Having said this, we don't have room for full time sale tables in the meeting room. The main focus as we all know is on learning and exchanging information. We can handle about 45 + people and be able to seat each person at a table and have room to move around.
I will look at the area tomorrow and see if I can figure out a way to help those people that may want to offer up some of their personal gear. Just as an Idea and the weather works with us, we will have about 2+ acres of parking lot that a tailgate swap could happen in for those that have a truck load of stones;). As an option we could set up a time that is dedicated each day and use the area (I say each day as some may not be able to arrive until Sunday).
That is just my $0.02 worth.
Anyone coming got a big tent? :)
Kevin
I just received 2 emails. JohnP, a very long time member of SRP said he really wants to come but not sure if he can make it.
Marcus Whichard said he would but already has plans for Myrtle Beach.
I appreciate them letting us know.:)
Regarding Buy/Sell/Trade at the razor meets.......... I have been to 8 razor meets and in each one some BST was going on.
No vendor had a table exclusively for selling purposes nor conducted themselves in a strictly sales role.
The last razor meet I attended in Kansas City one of the members brought in a big plastic tub filled with vintage razors that he let go for his cost! :) Lots of guys were very happy! :)
I usually bring a bunch of razors and hones for show & tell and without fail someone wants to buy!
It is only normal behavior at these Razor Meets.
In all things moderation.
I think we are all on the same page. Sounds good to me. Thanks for the input!
My two cent opinion says that I will not be able to make it due to my niece is getting married in Dallas that weekend. If people are interested in seeing something, maybe post somewhere wants and desires, and they can Private Message about it first and then reach out at contact one another one at the meet up. Just an idea. You never know what someone may have and is willing to part with without asking. Just and idea
Sweet, thanks Kevin. 2 days? Wow, that's awesome. I'm going to have to bring my note taking material. I wonder if I can get some continuing education hours for this meetup. LOL!! I'll make sure I bring my brush. Love his card and logo. Rockabilly Barber Shop..... Oh am I going to enjoy this. :D
As rickboone has stated in the KY Meetup thread. April 19 in Richmond, KY there is a meetup as well.
May be a great opportunity for those making a long trek to double down.
It's definetely something you don't want to miss. And one day I will learn to spell definetly.
Wanted to introduce myself - from Winston-Salem - heard about this on the B&B board - just getting into Straight Razor shaving - five razors- Zero decent shaves - really looking forward to this -may be the oldest at the meet(68 at that time). Not much to share been wet shaving a few years but wanting to refine my skills and learn more about honing and stropping.
Glad to have you coming. There's a group of guys in your area that meet on a regular basis, just a handful...Maybe one will chime in here. I do think Kevin has been there and perhaps he can help me for the names. Or wait...they meet in Raleigh. I can't recall where that is in relation to you. Nonetheless we will see you at the meet and I will personally see to it you get the help you need to get a decent shave.
We meet in Durham usually and occasionally in Chapel Hill. Winston Salem is an hour and 45 minutes from Durham. We have around 7 people who meet and one from Asheville who comes down for sessions with one or two members learning honing. In fact, the convention is at his workplace.
My count we are at 35.
Make sure to tell all you know! Keep watch of the website, I will be posting hotel info there as soon as I hear from Kevin.

Thanks Rick
I would love to come.
Please send info.
Just heard about this a few days ago, but am already looking forward to it. I'm a definite 'most likely', at least for a day, hopefully both, as I'll be driving up from Charlotte area.
I still consider myself a newbie, as I just started this in January of this year.
Aaron, wouldn't mind hitting some (OK, maybe a lot) of the brewpubs. Straight Razors and Beer City USA, what could go wrong?
-Kevin
Welcome greatbolo! I'm sure you will find this forum quite useful. There is a wealth of information and experience to draw from. We look forward to your input.
I will not try to out drink the man in the kilt. No no.
Oh I can't miss this. Count me in.
Don't miss this!
IMPORTANT:
The Best Rate in town is 25 minutes away. I know this is a long way, but it is American owned, Clean and easy on and off the interstate.
Quality Inn 828-684-6688 The Rate is $75.00 per night and I have a block set aside.
When you register say you are registering under Hides To Art. I use this hotel for other events and the account is set up that way. It will take until tomorrow afternoon after 3:00 for it to make it through the system.
I have calls into the Crown Plaza and Sheridan and will be posting those rates. I am working with a Holiday inn as well.
Book soon as it seems this is wedding time in the mountains.
Kevin
Cool beans. Thanks for the info and doing that Kevin.
Who is interested in sharing a room with someone?
This seems to be coming off great! I hope lots of pics shall be forthcoming! :tu
