Asheville NC meetup ; April 26-27th

To answer that let me give you an example. It was either 2 or 3 years ago at Lynns Razor Meet in Cape Girardeau, MO.

We were in Lynns basement. At one table Lynn was giving a honing demo to a group of guys. At the next table, 6 ft away, I was honing a razor for Juxt1. In the next room ( workshop) some guys were using the buffers/drill press/belt grinder etc..
Upstairs in the garage guys were bs'ing. In the dinig room guys were going over custom razor/strops/brushes. All of this at the same time.
That's what will be happening at this Razor Meet. The time slots for Lynn/Randy/Ron are just to show who is going to be giving what demo and when. After our demos Lynn/Rand/Ron will be available for any other questions/help. While we are doing our demos CJ will be answering questions about barber hone, help with stropping will be going on, restoration work outside will be continuing etc.

Yes, I don't know if he will actually paste a strop or just demonstrate how to use them. Pasting a strop with a medium can prove challenging the first time around. Many fear messing something up. Or you can put too much... Seeing it would be beneficial for sure.

I have a spare SRD webbing and a Felt (Not on a handle).
I also have some CrOx and .25 Diamond Spray I was going to donate to a good home at the meet.
I will bring A CrOx crayon as well, we can doctor up the two fabrics and if someone can use them they can find a home as well.

Yes, I will be doing that for the Razor Meet. I will also bring some materials/supplies.

To clarify, I will be demonstrating stropping for absolute newbies who don't know how to do it at all (assuming any are in attendance), available on an as-needed base throughout the day. You experienced guys could probably strop circles around me; I am by no means an expert. But like I told Kevin, as I'm no hone meister, I have to be a competent stropper.:p

But I also like the idea of people just hanging out wherever their interests take them. As both a teacher and former Scoutmaster (with scouting being especially logistics-intensive), I know that there is a fine line between under planning and over planning. I'm sure we'll all find a way to have a blast, both during and afterward!

I would like you to know I have all the support in the world for you with you understanding of stropping. It is your great people skills that will also shine through. Your honing skills are quite refined though you may not wish to admit it because that is who you are. I want to thank you for looking at the schedule and giving the team a heads up to you plans so we could adjust.

Take your time and teach others as you are a professional educator.

As is being shown in some of the replies,
I do not claim to be an expert, I am very proficient at most of this.
I hope to give half as much as I am sure I will take with me.
I started into this with no one to mentor me, I have fought my way through each piece.
I am sure I have some habits both good and bad.

Thanks, all-Like Pfries, I know enough just to be dangerous, and also hope to give half as much as I am sure I will take with me. I can't wait to meet and talk razors with all of you, regardless of skill level or experience. I would suggest that if a person wants a pasted striop/linen/felt that they bring the strop and I can provide the abrasives and time.

I was able to get another block of 10 rooms at the Crowne Plaze for $104.00 per night. The last block went in less that 6 hours so you may want to move on this if you are coming. When this block is gone, I will not be able to get any more discounted rooms.

A microscope station with multiple scopes to check you edges and understand what you are looking for.

And if the SWMBO is coming along, we have an event plan for them also. They will take in such places as the River Arts district. NC. State Arboretum, Biltmore house (For those that want to go) Biltmore village cafe's and browsing.

Glad that you are coming this is getting bigger each day. We will have tents set up in the parking lot for the overflow, located near the Brush turning and restoration demos that we could make an electronic free zone?

I imagine our hotels will have wifi so we can all upload pics of the event.

If folks are interested, bring some of your shaving soaps and creams that you wouldn’t mind letting others try. Also bring a brush, a bowl and some tap water from home. Kevin will have a table or 2 set up where folks can meet and play with lather. The idea is to let folks experiment with soaps and creams they haven’t tried before and see if they like them, and see if they work well with their brush and water before ordering them. Kind of a way to try before you buy. I’ll be bringing some of my Stirling Soap samples with me if anyone wants to try them. A few others have mentioned bringing some of their soaps for folks to try out as well.

I have had some field notes notebooks arrive as well as some cool lenses that turn your smart phone into a microscope, some razors and more !

Our team has been working the magic, behind the scenes once again, to give you the best experience we can at this meet up! In addition to honing demonstrations, a unique brush turning demo, restoration workshop, hands on stropping area, and personal help with barber hones, the TEAM has added yet another bonus on, Brush Turning! The date of the Asheville, NC Razor Meet is fast approaching.
April 26 & 27, 2014 is only 3 weeks away! :)

Currently we have 38 people who will definitely be attending
and 23 who are a "maybe".

For planning purposes( tables, chairs,room capacity, staff etc.)
we need to get a head count as accurate as possible.
So, if your definitely attending or maybe attending and have not
posted in one of the forum threads then please do so now.

Please read all the thread, there is a ton of info that I have not included in this message such as details on what has been planned for the spouses is an example.

There will be a great deal going on. There will be 10 staff guys available to help you with most any question you have.
Honing demonstrations & help by 3 different people on that subject area. Barber hone demos, stropping demos, help with pasted strops,
1 on 1 help with lathering, shaving technique and most any other question you may have.
Razor restoration demos, turning a shaving brush demos and other guys to answer any question you have about leather,linen, felt, poly strops.
This will be the most well attended & well staffed razor meet that has ever been held.
