Thanked: 13245Got home to Idaho last night from an awesome trip...
What a great time, just a beautiful drive North through some of the most rugged parts of the Rocky Mountains going through BC into the big open country of Alberta,, just breath taking scenery and this coming from a guy that is from Colorado and Idaho
Ralph, you and you Wife are the consummate hosts to your guests, Thank You so much for making us all feel so welcome in your home,,
Of course if she hadn't kept giving me all the good coffee, I might have talked a bit less hehehehe
One thing I simply love about the meets is sitting down and getting to discuss using different techniques and ideas about honing when we are all sitting around the table and can actually try it right then and there,, and see the results first hand, in real time..
We also collectively might have come up with a secondary use of the Magic Marker test that needs a bit more testing to see if our theory bears out
Got to see one of Jon/ThisisClog's razors that he built, really tight clean work, and Shawn/RezDog brought one of Pierre's razor's to the meet which was simply stunning..
I think I must have honed on 10 different HGH stones, every time I turned around Shawn was handing me another to try I know he tossed at least one in the Box-o-Rocks that came home with me..
I think Shawn and I guilt tripped Ralph enough that he felt obligated to at least try honing using a little slurry, by Sun he was feeling pretty comfortable playing in the Mud..
We really did quite a bit of honing on the Norton 4/8's and I am really looking forward to hearing about those shaves, that is going to be very interesting ..
The trip back was faster and way easier I messed up and forgot to change Google Maps to "Fastest" rather then "Shortest" on the way there, so I drove in through a Snowstorm and miles of farm/ranch country Yes it really was snowing on May 2nd
All in all a great trip to a meet where I got together with a bunch of like minded SR shavers and had a wonderful time, I can't say this enough "If you get the chance to attend a Meet Up do not miss it you will learn more in 6 hours then in months of reading and watching Vids"
Good times with good people, and now that I know the faster route I am way more likely to trek North again for anotherLast edited by gssixgun; 05-04-2015 at 05:57 PM.

Thanked: 4827Sorry you missed Sunday too. There were three of us and Glen. We honed and Glen helped us refine our techniques and showed us some of the subtleties that we would be able to great great mileage out of. I have not test shaved it yet but it looks like my 8K edge has stepped up quite a bit and you know what that means for everything after that. Think about Seattle!

“Good times with good people” quoted from Glen.
Sorry it took me so long to get over here, had to clean up all the beer bottles off the front lawn, tidy up etc.
Was great to see everybody, I had a blast! I think there is only one thing better than attending a razor workshop and that’s hosting one.
I was fortunate to have the pros check out my equipment including one of Andrew’s masterpieces, the “Lighting Storm”.
Little did I know I had a great coti with Belgian Blue stone on the underside, not slate. I had to keep an eye on it though, Glen seemed to take a shine to it.
We had an opportunity to try various hones, many of which I will never be able to afford, but some gifted. I’m now the proud owner of a HGH hone. Thanks Shawn.
Jon, nice work on your razors and brushes.
Sonu, thank you for the cigars, saving for special occasion
Wes, we took good care of the beer
It’s pretty cool to have personal "one on one" instruction from a pro. Glen was able to show us how to identify what we are doing incorrectly and demonstrate how to improve our skills which is valuable to all of us (I am currently at the 6th level yellow belt honer)
We all thank you Glen for taking the time and effort to drive up here to CowTown and offer to share your expertise to those of us that were fortunate enough to attend.
Perhaps the Seattle Workshop????
BTW I’m not going to let the cat out of the bag but Jon showed interest in perhaps hosting next year’s Alberta Workshop,….

Thanked: 4827The good news is that I have made it home. The bad news is it is sans suitcase. I should know late tomorrow afternoon if it made it to the local airport and it should be at my house the next day.
