    @Gonzo

I think most of the strop work will be repair. But, if you want to make strops we can do that. I have made a couple. Bring Chicago screws.

You can buy hardware for strops. The ones I made used 3 inch gate hinges which I modded to fit strop leather and linen.

    Gentlemen,

You don't want to miss Dave's meetup in Caledonia. I have attended all and come away with a bounty of knowledge and a cast of new friends. Dave is a gentleman and the perfect host.

And Bonnie is the gentle queen of Caledonia with a royal spread of savory grub. I assure you, Dave's wet shaving soiree is a must on the calendar.

Oh, you also don't want to miss seeing the great Randy hone a razor. Randy was one of my three honing professors. Randy still is.

Also, Ron's sense of humor and inquisitive microscope you do not want to miss.

As for me, I am having knee replacement on August 3. If able to drive to Dave's chateau by September 29, I will be there with a bouquet of flowers tied to my bionic knee.

Gentlemen, if you can make it, you will find the visit to Dave's a memorable event.

    Obie,

Good luck with the knee replacement surgery.
I have known a few that have had it with very positive results.
Hope the recovery is speedy and you can make the trip.

Do the exercises that the doctors recommend religiously!!! Both of mine were replace 15 years ago and have made a major improvement in my life. The people I know who have had trouble were lazy and didn't follow the recuperation directions.

Thank you, Pete. Right now the knees are in really bad shape, bone-on-bone, and I hope I can last the month. In the meantime, I do my best. I think I will probably have to sit on a high stool and shave, because standing up at the mirror is quite painful — and I'm not about to miss a day's shave.

Thanks, Learner. Yes, I do my pre-surgery exercises regularly, and I will do so after the operation. Now for sure I have an incentive to recuperate fast: Dave's razor meet September 29.

Unfortunately our band is booked that weekend, so I will not be able to make it this year. If I know farther in advance I can block out time, but we are usually booking 8 months ahead.

Had a great time last year.

Obie I wish you well, the key I have been advised is the Physical therapy and don't wimp out, our friend Mike Blue had both knees replaced a few months ago, and is now walking 7 miles a day and can squat down on his butt. hes the one who has got me moving to lose the weight and get prepped for my knee surgery. bone on bone myself and some bone is now gone( too many jumps out of Planes and injuries along the way ) also I met Tom (Learner) a couple of times, and he is the man too, hes older than me by a few and he gets around like a kid!. so its selfish of me cause I want to meet you in the flesh, but with 7-8 weeks if it goes well you should be ok to come, but you must move at whats comfortable. good luck, I hope to make it to my surgery date to Tc

    TC, my friend,
Thank you for the encouragement. I'm pretty hard core when it comes to things like. So yes, I will be a little commando and not wimp out.
I will try my best to make the event. Wouldn't want to miss meeting my friend TC.

    Obie,

The meetup will not be the same without you if you can’t make it. Good luck with the knee replace, ent surgery. Sending you positive vibes and prayers for a speedy and full recovery.
I hope to see you again, but if you can’t make it, I understand.
