Right now, things in Belgium are under control.
Not that everything is peachy but there are no disasters happening and ICU beds are under control. But then Belgium has an adult full vaccination rate of +80% and it keeps rising. It's the one thing our 6 governments have gotten right. Right now we project around 95%. My kids have had their 1st shot as well. And that's good because they repeated on the news that the vast majority of the ones needing hospitalization are the unvaccinated ones.
In any case, as I mentioned earlier, Our Plant maintenance shutdown will -probably- be February March so it's likely I wouldn't be able to make it anyway because there's a large project in scope for that for which I have to be onsite.
The latte might just be a blessing in disguise it seems. Because it seems that travel to the US is going to remain problematic for a while and if the meet doesn't happen in 2022, then it would REALLY suck if they'd planned that Plant shutdown in Feb 2023Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Our counties vaccination is about 34% it has been in that area for about a month. K-12 schools and the University are starting up as though things are normal. The parking lots of restaurants are full of cars. I am pretty pessimistic I think the county and surrounding area have to hit bottom, before things will get better.
I am feeling apprehensive and stressed over the meet. I do not see things getting better here for a while. If things do not start looking up in the near future I will throw in the towel.
I appreciate you guys and your thoughts.

Thanked: 4826You are the only one that can assess the area risk on our behalf. I appreciate your perspective, and if things are not within your comfort zone, then you should throw in the towel. You have been most generous over the years in hosting this meet, and I appreciate what you have done. If it’s not this year, everyone will have to take a deep breath and try next year. I think you should always get the first and last word.

Im with Shaun on this. As I already said, things are too risky right now and I dont see things getting better real fast. I think you are correct in saying it will have to hit bottom before leople take it seriously.
YOU need to feel right about this! And I bet none of us would disagree with your choice. Our health and the health of others we are around is the most important thing. It's just Sharpening, right?

Well that is it, I am calling off the meet.
There will not be a 2022 meet.
I am sorry for the inconvenience, to those who have made plans.

It feels weird to 'like' the last post, but I mean it as fully supporting your decision. Six months is a ways off, but putting off the decision can start locking things in as people make plans. Better to know.

Nothing to be sorry for Charlie. You have to do what feels right.
I shall attempt to get a refund on airfare and the rental car.
If they won't play ball and refund the cash, I will still make the trip.
No biggie.
Better luck next time...

Well, I just checked with Priceline.
My reservations are non refundable.
If I don't go...I loose.
Vacation in Wichita Falls is in order for me.

Charlie
You made the correct decision.
Bon and I are actually relieved the trip is off. As one of, if not the oldest person, I chance to suffer the most with a break through infection. It is not worth the risk.
Thank you
Dave and BonnieIf you don't care where you are, you are not lost.
