Thanked: 0It was great to meet all of you. There are too many thanks to hand out, and I'll just reiterate all of the gratitude I tried to express in person. Ron, I am running to my fridge every few minutes for the remnants of the meat just because I can't get enough of it. Hopefully, we can put another one of these meetups together soon.

Thanked: 335I really like that purple swarf on a white hone trick. Too bad I had to miss the prestidigitation.

Thanked: 3795I'd like to thank everyone who came and made the day so enjoyable. Unfortunately, like the last Mid-MO meetup, I think I spent more time just chatting with people rather than discussing razor related things but oh well, that was a great time. Before people showed up I was worried about how much of a mess our house still was but after we got started, I just didn't worry about it any more. Of course it help that so much beer was available!
The pork was supposed to be done by noon, having been put on at 6PM the previous day, but it choose not to cooperate. Thanks to Mike Blue's advice, we pulled one off early and it was just fine. The rest of them were finally at full temperature at 6PM, only 6 hours behind schedule!
The three beginners who came were Volchonok (Boris), LouG (Lou), and NoseWarmer (Chris?). Hopefully all left with a better sense of what they've gotten themselves into! Randy and I honed up a couple of razors for Volchonok and I've got one of his going through its paces on the buffer. If LouG or NoseWarmer need more help or honing, you are more than welcome to PM me.
After the meet-up, I realized that I forgot to lay out some of the hones I meant to put out for people to try. I guess that means we'll have to do this again next year!
Thanks again guys.
Edit: I'd also like to thank Randy for giving my wife a honing lesson on Sunday. I figured it was a better idea for the sake of our marriage if someone else taught her!Last edited by Utopian; 11-09-2010 at 08:17 PM.

It's Phil, but that's OK... I've been called worse... Maybe I should change my name...???
Ron it was a great time... Even if we didn't talk shop the whole time... It was still great "fellowship"...
Ben took one of my razors home with him to scale... I can't wait to get it back and see it...

Thanked: 3795
Sorry, I took a shot. I'm bad with names anyway but it's worse when you have to keep two names straight. Yes, it was great fellowship, and after all, razor discussions go on here all the time so there is nothing wrong with a meet-up not just being limited to razor talk. If you need any honing done, I will gladly do a couple for you. After all, you, like several others, brought and left more beer than you drank!

Great Time at Iowa Meet up
Thanks to all for such a great time. I'm so new to this, I'm glad we didn't cover too much razor stuff. It would be too much information for me to handle! Fellowship was great and discussions were interesting as well as informative. I came away knowing quite a bit more than when I arrived. I do have some pictures still in the camera. I will post them at some point here. The delayed pulled pork was worth the wait! Delicious! Special thanks to our host Utopian and his wife. It was great to meet you all and hope to see you again at another meet up.

Soap Samples
Well it's been a few weeks... So I was wondering if anyone has tried the samples that were left behind?
My favorite is still the "Amish Harvest"... HOWEVER, I had a special batch to bring with me and needless to say... I added too much oil, my face was on fire!
So I'll go back to the original "design"... Let me know what you think...

Howdy Nosewarmer,
I tried my first sample yesterday - Black Canyon and used it again today. Wow, I really like the lather it makes and smell is good too. I haven't tried the others yet, but plan to soon. Thanks for giving us some samples. I haven't tried the Amish Harvest yet, do I need to worry? Do you make the soap or does your wife make it? Do you plan to sell any of this soap?

The batch of "Amish Harvest" that you have is the "original recipe"... You shouldn't have any problems... I was the only "test subject" to the advanced batch...
I'm the one making them, lot's of time off when I'm home... As for selling them... Yes I will but I'm not into it to hurt anyone's business here at SRP...
Let me know if there is one that you like and we can work something out...
And thank you for the input...
