Gentlemen:
The SRP meet was a delight, thanks to Randy and Ron for the invaluable honing lessons, and thanks for Ben for setting up the event. I cannot remember how long it has been since I had such a good time. I know everyone enjoyed it. I'll write a post about the meet in a day or so.
Regards,
Obie

Thanked: 21Well finally got home from the meet about 45 min ago! The last of us left about midnight from the meeting room.
I just want to say thank you to everyone who attended. I know myself and the rest of the newer members have gotten way to much info today to even remember. Randy and Ron Thank you for the honing marathon. And Geezer thanks for the pinning and scale making demos (And the razor).
Thank you to all who brought giveaway items they were appreciated! (and Razorbeam can now keep shaving)
And the first annual Randy and Ron Razor Race was won by.....................Obie.....Twice! It was good for us to see the patience and dedication these honemeister put into their skill. And makes it much more appreciated when they hone for us.
Besides the knowledge (hone side up?), giveaways and sharp razors, we all walked away with a sense of comradery and about 18 new friends.
I absolutely think we should have more of these events perhaps this fall? With a little more time we may be able to come up with a different location to perhaps have a grinding or buffing demo?
Thanks again to all who could attend and sorry for the members unable to make this one you were missed but next time we want to work it out to get you there!

I'm picturing Obie at the diner devouring his midnight-breakfast and recounting his spoils of the day to the waitress and telling her all of Geezer's hilarious one-liners.
Don't **** off the bow!

Thanks, Derek. Yes, Geezer turned out to be the master of the one-liners. Ron (Utopian) often cracked me up, too, and also Randy (Randydance). These gentlemen are naturally funny.
My only regret is not having had my mini cassette recorder with me to capture some of the dialogue. I rarely go anywhere without it. Half way down to Kenosh I realized that unfortunately I had left the recorder and the extra cassettes on my desk. Oy!
Stay well.

I think it may take a great while until I meet someone with as much "thrift" as Ron!

Hi Folks,
Thanks to Randy for the transportation and knowledgeable conversation on the way down and back! Randy delivered me and "stuff" to my door tonight with an hour left to drive before he arrived home. I want to put my thoughts down while things are still fresh in my mind. Stopping at antique stores with Randy on the way down Friday and back today was a kick!
My hearty thanks to all who attended! I was able to give a kinda/sorta demonstration of unpinning a razor and finishing some purchased inexpensive replacement scales and pinning a refinished blade into them with limited tools. I shall be better prepared next time! I had a lot of fun while doing that and other thingses...Like drinking vast amounts of coffee and...!
I spent two hours the night before (Fri.) with Randy and cussing a blue streak trying to get an old "Elliot" 15/16ths smiley rattler Sheffield' sharpened.Saturday, I was able to garner a lot more info and hone time with both Utopian (Ron) and Randy (randydance.) For the first time, I actually got a razor to pass the hanging hair test. This was a milestone compared to the millstone I was carrying with my less than perfect honing and the dastardly results upon my razors; who then gleefully avenged themselves by inflicting injury upon my face. I was able to benefit greatly from asking, and listening to the questions of others and the well thought out answers by the hone folks; Randy and Ron at the honing demonstrations and the knowledgeable general conversation of all those attending!!
Finding a cheap(!!!!!) usable "Thuringen" razor hone on the way down in one of the many antique stores we stopped at kinda sorta made my weekend. If the above mentioned and non-mentioned folks had not been to the meet, the weekend would not have been the pleasure it was! The people put it clearly over the top! As Derek mentioned, Obie was the perfect straight man!
We all owe a great amount of thanks to "knightwolf" ( Ron)!! The motel was a great choice and accommodations for the room and suites was very good and the staff looked in from time to time and kept the coffee pot filled and gave us plates, condiments and utensils for the brought in food.
All in all...A great weekend for me, and for the others I would think also! there was a sadness at leaving shown by all that stopped to shake hands and give thanks to those who were there!
Again????
Respectfully

Thanked: 3795I, too, have survived my shorter drive of 310 miles. I've got the car unloaded and I'm going to unpack some hones and finish that last razor that I did not get to last night! I'll also write more tomorrow but for now I'll just say THANK YOU to Knightwolf for organizing this meetup and for paying for the meeting room.
