Thanked: 48Had an excellent meetup with WillN in Decatur last night and learned a lot about vintage blades, honing, and many things. My first straight razor meetup of sorts and I would say it was a success!
Over a beer or two at the Brick Store we came to a few conclusions regarding the organization of a proper meetup in Atlanta being that; one, we both recognize the need to make the first 'official' meetup something more significant that will attract everyone into participating and carry over momentum encouraging more future regular meetups in the area and two, that a longer term planning for something well anticipated after the holidays is a wiser choice than rushing into something with a weak turnout before. To set a realistic date on the calendar which can be planned around and draw in as many of us as possible who otherwise have difficult schedules to align.
We have decided probably a weekend afternoon event somewhere central to Atlanta where we will have our own room free to setup a proper show and tell without making everyone around us wonder exactly how crazy we really are WillN has a few contacts and places in mind and will be leading the effort to secure us a great location.
So lets not rush into anything before the holidays instead projecting out possibilities in the February timeframe which we can all plan around and look forward to. There is talk about possibly bringing in a few of the uber-gurus from further away to help really spark interest.Last edited by groovyd; 11-18-2011 at 01:05 PM.

Excellent idea. Let me know if you guys have another informal meet. I don't know what I can do to help but am willing to try. I would however like to know as soon as possible the date so I can request that day off if needed. Darn union requires us to bid our vacation days.

Thanked: 48Great news everyone, we have settled in on the first weekend in February (4th and 5th) as the date for the first 'official' Atlanta Straight Razor MeetUp!
We are hoping to make this meet-up really shine; the beginnings of what may turn into the epicenter of straight razor shaving enthusiasts across the entire south east. A realistic goal that Atlanta truly has the potential to become but we need everyone's help to pull it off. In order to drum up a respectable crowd (as respectable as a straight razor crowd could be ) for our first meet-up we have enlisted the support of some big-BIG-guns and uber-UBER-gurus who are planning to travel from afar to attend if we show significant local and regional interest. I can't give out any names just yet but rest assured it will be very VERY worth your while!
So everyone please get excited and then take a moment to mark the first weekend in February on your calendars and plan the rest of your world around it. Let's hear a shout out right here on this thread from everyone as soon as you have the date locked and loaded with the number of people in your group, the days you are in for (sat, sun, both), if you will need help finding accommodation, and any other information (ie. do you have a trailer I can display my thousand razor collection in -or- would anyone get mad if I brought my lathe and made custom brushes for everyone) that might be useful in helping us plan out the meeting space, events, and give-aways. There will be show and tell. There will be seminars for honing, stropping, product, and technique. There will be the elusive BBS. But most of all there will be lots of good times and great people who share your enthusiasm for wet shaving.
DE users (and maybe even the occasional cartridge user ) are all invited!

That is the time frame people and we are excited about this meet up! Please look at your schedules and plan to attend AND please post or PM so that we can begin to get a count of how many to expect.
Like Daryl said above, we will look for an appropriate space for our meet and I have a few in mind depending on the number to attend. Let's keep this thread bumped up and get some numbers to ensure those big guns come to help us all learn.

I am off on the 5th and trying to trade shifts with another dispatcher. My enabling wife will likely join us too.
