I don't think that is the one, Glen, but I will let Daryl answer. The one he suggested was just a block off of the square. There are a number of good places to stay right in or near downtown Decatur.
If anyone has questions about the proximity I will be happy to help, just p.m. me.
We are checking out space in a couple of locations, but they will be in this general vicinity. Decatur is just a suburb of Atlanta. It looks like we need a place that has the flexibility of space / more space as we seem to be picking up people quickly and still have a month to go.
We will keep you informed when we narrow down the venue. Nobody get nervous we will make sure it has good food and beer close at hand.

Decatur Holiday Inn
The Holiday Inn in Downtown Decatur is at the intersection of Clairmont and Ponce De Leon. As for food in the area, there is Ted's Montana Grill, a Ruby Tuesdays, a Taco Mac, Brick Store Pub, and my personal favorite "Big Tex Cantina."
If anyone is in the Decatur/Tucker area and wants to meet up - I'm in. I am probably heading to find some whetstones, or maybe hit TAOS at Lenox.
Happy New Year!

Thanked: 48The Holiday Inn I am organizing us to be at is:
Holiday Inn
130 Clairemont Ave Decatur, GA 30030
(404) 371-0204
They are still working on a proposal for any group rates for us and are asking how many people we would be and how many rooms we need, doubles or king. I am using 20 rooms as a guess-timit but will need to give them a better answer by mid-January. To make it easier for everyone I have published a Google Docs spreadsheet at the following link that anyone can edit...
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...1dsclBvMWF0ZUE
Please add your group to this spreadsheet so that we can get a better feel for the who's what's where's and when's. I have room for 2-3 people if you don't mind sleeping on an air bed or a thermarest and sleeping bag on the floor. Just PM me first and it is yours.
Is there any way to make a copy of this Google Docs link a sticky at the top of this thread, admin?
For those arriving by airplane, the Marta (subway) leaves from inside the airport every 10 minutes and takes you straight to Decatur only two blocks from the hotel for a couple bucks. From there you can also catch the Marta to mid-town and the meeting place so there really is no need for a rental car unless you want to explore around more. I will probably organize a side trip to visit Stone Mountain and think we should have plenty of local cars to make it happen so save yourself on the rental.
I got a couple friends curious to get into straight razor shaving that will be joining us. Should be a great meetup!Last edited by groovyd; 12-30-2011 at 04:23 PM.

I'm thinking that I'm going to try and make it to this. I just started with a SR since this christmas- I'm sure there is a TON I could learn from a get together like this.
Google tells me it's an 11hr drive (I'm in Maryland) but I'm a fan of driving around to new places. Never been to GA before!

OK EVERYONE!!! LISTEN UP!!!
We have the place to meet and we will meet at Manuel's Tavern which is on the corner of Highland Ave and North Ave in Atlanta. This is just ten minutes from Decatur and Daryl is looking into some accomodations right next door. You can go to manuelstavern.com to take a look and the address is:
602 N Highland Avenue Northeast Atlanta, GA 30307-1433
(404) 525-3447
This is a great place and is an Atlanta institution as well as a personal favorite of mine and it has plenty of free parking. There are MARTA rail lines that run from the airport to within a mile or so of Manuel's so we could arrange to pick people up if necessary.
I think I had my first (legal) beer there way back when. I have arranged for us to have a room called "The Eagle's Nest" and we can run individual tabs or a group tab. We will have the room from 11:00 am till 6:30 pm on Sat and Sunday is open to start at the same time. We don't have to leave at 6:30, I just had to give them an end time to reserve the room. There will always be room for us at Manuel's if anyone wants to stay on into the evening.
I think this is shaping up to be a great, no, fantastic event.
