Thanked: 522New attitude about lapping plate
I am a longtime user of the DMT 220 and 325 grit diamond plates for lapping my stones. However, after reading some recent threads about the ATOMA diamond plates, I found it necessary to try the ATOMA 400. Very impressive plate. So then, a month later I also bought the ATOMA 1200 plate. Very good purchase.
I am well into my fourth DMT 325 plate and this is what told me I need a change. It seems the ATOMA plates are somewhat faster and I like that. They are certainly lighter when lapping under the old faucet. Aluminum is definitely lighter than steel. At my age , this is a plus.
The switch from DMT to ATOMA is a wise move. Don't hesitate if you feel a change is necessary. It's just another level of HAD. Go for it!!!!!!!!!!JERRY
OOOPS! Pass the styptic please.

I ben flatting rocks that I found with rocks or cement blocks.
Last night I tried using a stick it really seems to soak up some of the grit
of the rock that needs lots of flatting cause it does seem to work.
It's a lot less stress on my waists cause how I hold it with two hands.
But well you must likely don't have stuff needing as much flatting as my yard finds.

I've been using a small Atoma 1200 for some time. I really like it, and wouldn't hesitate buying Atoma in the future. As a matter of fact, When my DMT's go, I will buy Atoma. The 1200 is especially good as Tomo Nagura on Jnats. It doesn't scratch the surface of your hone, YMMV.

Thanked: 202Interesting to hear about the Atoma. So far I was more or less stuck with belts and grit on worktop.

Where can I buy an atoma online? Don't say amazon they wont ship it to me, not that I have looked to see if they have one, it would be pointless, they won't ship it to me.
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

I LOVE my Atoma 1200. It is markedly faster than the DMT1200, and does not "stick" to the stone like DMTs do. It is a great lapping plate for finishing stones IMHO...
