    Default Slurry Stones?

I would like some information about slurry stones; not sure how this works (are these Nagura stones?). I want to use these to create slurry and clean the stone at times. I have a 1K King stone and a Norton 4/8 K. What grit slurry stone do I need, does the grit have to match the stone, can I use one slurry stone for all the above?

    Thanks

You don't use slurry stones with synthetics. They are for natural stones.

yea I know someone is going to now say they use them for synthetics.

Manmade stones don't need any aid in the cutting of steel.

I need something mainly for the king Delux stone. It just cuts too slow to try and set a bevel.

I had a king. Same experience as you. I have a Norton 1k, but I love my chosera 1k. I also have a 600 and a full spread of dmts. The dmt 1200 if broken in well is fast and never needs lapping. The choseras do come with a 600 grit slurry stone. You could try 600 grit wet dry sandpaper. I never did but have heard some people use it,

I some times grind the side of a cheap kitchen knife on the side of my king stones
to make it dead flat again and get a new fresh surface to sharpen on that ends up making it cut faster
like it did the first time i use it.
Be careful then tend to grind more stuff away where their more presure keep the presure even.

A dmt 325 (D8C) about 5 figure 8's before each razor and you will have slurry, a clean surface and a level surface, easy peasy. Try it and if you don't like it rinse the stone after the figure 8's..

Oh yeah that works on all everything from the 1k's to the J-nats and all the stuff in between.. Like I said try it and see what you find buried in the mud, in you don't find good results then rinse and go...

If you want to seriously increase cutting power then buy one of the Norton Prep stones or the synthetic Nagura from the woodworking places, those will breakdown and create a faster cutting slurry then just the stone itself...

    Thanks for replies

I think there must be a trick to get this stone to work. I find a lot of times it doesn't want to cut, and at times it feels like it's doing nothing even with a fair amount of pressure. That is why I thought I would try the slurry and see if that helps.

Is this the Nagura you are talking about?
Artificial Nagura Stone - Lee Valley Tools
The aritficial Naguras and Norton prep stones say to use them on the finer grits. Will they help to cut better on the King 1200 or just use on the 4K Norton?
I might get a DMT sometime, but the only one I could find local was a 4"x10" for $90; more than I want to spend.

    Thanks

Yes that is the Nagura I am talking about, I would Google Synthetic Nagura or Artificial Naugura and see if you can't find it cheaper..
