Looks like a coticule...unfortunately, it looks like it has a crack down the center...that's not good...will definitely catch the blade.

I would be more worried if it would hold together than catching. I would not be too surprised that after decent lapping ther would be no issue whatsoever.

Good point, that crack looked like it went right through the center in the middle of the stone...could that be lapped out?

It doesn't look that serious. And, since the stone looks like it's one piece, just use X strokes. You don't have to stuck the edge in there to see if it can be damaged. Those fine cracks are very common on vintage coticules.

A lot of coticules have what appear to be cracks in them, but in most cases they're from when the sediment was laid down and they've been filled with inclusions and can't be felt - I have one with several "crack" lines that look like the one in that auction, and it's just fine.

There is a dip in the surface and it's going to take some lapping to get it flat, but there will still be plenty of coticule thickness left.

That hasa weird wave in it, but yup that's gotta be a natural coticule/bluestone combo.

Very good price for a combo, little skinny but heck you got a natural for under $100 USD, go you!

The way I see it is that the "crack" runs through coti and BBW all the way through, meaning, broken and glued. Might be wrong, if I'm not, hope its decently glued!

If you mean what's visible in the 7th photo, what I think I see there at the right is a scratch on the edge that extends over bother layers but does not reach the surface of either, and slightly to the left of that the "crack" on the yellow surface that only extends a little way into the stone on that side - I don't thing the deep jagged crack/scratch is the same thing as the surface line/crack.

In photos 2 and 3 of the other side of the stone, it looks as if the surface "crack" extends as far as the join, but I don't see it extending into the BBW.

I really don't think the stone has been broken and glued.

Could be, but I do see it going through the BBW in the 3th pic, in the the same angle and in the end it turns to the left, and this in combination with crack in pic 7 and cracks on surface of BBW and coti, don't know...
could be wrong, I hope it! But again, if it were, and the job is well done, no problem at all I guess...
