I took advantage of the holiday special and ordered an 8x3 myself. Really looking forward to giving it a whirl. Currently using Norton progression and barber hones with a .5 micron diamond spray. From reading this it almost sounds like a second ZG may be in order.... once I make it through the list of other wants/needs
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

I received my 3x8 today. I am excited to try it out but I don't have a razor in need of a touch up yet. I only have one razor and that one is still sharp and smooth after the professional honing. Maybe I'll see if I can find a new razor to buy and test on/have as backup (if i ruin the one I have now).

Yes, I have done this before, with good results also. All you need as a finisher is very light slury if at all. This would allow you to control the amount you want on the stone. However, with practice, you can also control the slury you raise on a particular stone with a DMT or such, or a piece of stone. For me, it's not an exact science and more like "that looks about right".

Thanked: 3225Interesting thread with some good info. I lapped my ZG with a DMT325 and use it after the Nani 12k for a few strokes as a final touch.

Wxman, I would suggest that you learn to set bevels on the 1k and progress to 4k/8k in order to achieve nice edges. Doing this will help you better understand finishing a razors edge plus it'll save you money in honing services. I'm no pro but I think the fundamentals are important when it comes to honing. I've been practicing for some time now and have yet to purchase a finisher like the ZG.
