Thanked: 24I wouldn't worry much about the slurry stone not being lapped. Being uneven it will make slurry better than if it were dead flat. By virtue of use the flatter that slurry stone will become. Walla, your slurry stone will turn into a touchup stone. Then you'll need to tilt it a touch if you need a thicker slurry.

It looks like it may be from La Dressante layer. Looks like No. 80 in the Coticule vault. Beautiful stone!

Learning on coticule?
Congratulation Aaron! Nothing to it! In reality, I think you did your homework.
If you want to see if that's the max sharpness you going to get from that stone, you could do set of 20 very light x strokes more on water only. Shave and repeat, till no improvement on the shave.
By the way, beautiful stone. This is what I'm playing with.
The last two are BBW. Only one is mine. They are all different in feel, speed and finish. The best finisher so far is the one with the red specks, which belongs to Hirlau, member here.
I believe the Zulu would be a nice addition to your Coti. My advise to you is that for now, you stop on the Coti and shave, and don't move to the Zulu till you get a decent shave.

I'm thinking mine looks like a mix between double o's middle stone and his larger slurry/touch up stone, and maybe chasm o's far left bout in the second pic. It has some of the grainy looking stripes and quite a bit of the reddish speckled parts to it. Either way, it's a lot more of a figured patten than what I thought from the pics on the superior shave website that I selected it from. Very Pleased with the looks and performance so far.
I still can't believe that my first attempt with it on a neglected razor came out as well as it did. I fully intended to mess with it a bit, then send it out to someone for an initial honing that I could then maintain.Classic, traditional Barber and owner at Barber's Notch in Brigham City, Utah.

I do wish it were a BBW combo, but I suppose in the beginning this is better since there is only one stone to work with as opposed to. Fiddling with both at the same time.
