Thanked: 8How do you store your hones ?
I reckon that now that I have 12 hones, I am suffering from HAD ! My problem now is how to store them so they are not prone to damage and also easily ready for use, ( I don't have any hones that need wet storage ! ) - any suggestions please guys ?
I use my garage for my workshop so it gets very cold in the winter, but not too damp !
I put the heating on when I am working in there but obviously cannot keep it on all the time, so there are constant temperature changes in the winter !
Any advice welcomed.

I have 2 nortons, 3 barbers hones. I store them all in a cheap cigar box, with felt around each stone and wood spacers between each stone to prevent sliding around.
Just have to make sure they are well dried out before storing.

Thanked: 202Some of my friends make paper boxes for dry hones. With me first it was original boxes, then paper boxes, then shelf. then big plastic boxes and more shelves and now I am just starting to learn art of making own wooden boxes.
It is realy about your choice and willingness to try it.

I bought a trancher table on wheels from Ikea.
It has 3 shelves, an expandable table top and a drawer on it.
Works perfect, and looks good sitting in the corner of my workspace when not in use

I have a plastic storage container that all of my honing equipment is stored in. That sits in my bedroom closet. All of my hones are currently stored in the original manufacturer packaging that they came in. I'm sure that after many years of use that the packaging will eventually get dumped and I will have to carefully stack them in the plastic container to prevent them from chipping.

Thanked: 1184I have a small plastic box/well for my Nortons and the rest sit on a nice secure shelf once dry. I am going to cover the shelf with some of that no skid material you find in the shelf paper section of the store or some rubber sheet or both. Yeah both ,,,,,be right back :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

kitchen cabinet. Convenient since I hone in front of the kitchen sink.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
