Thanked: 4826My first hone never leaves my possession. I do encourage everyone who is interested to go bash a few rocks. When they did they geological surveys here they only mapped out areas that were thought to have some economic value. Formations that would typically yield working metal or precious metal. There is great chunks of metamorphic rock here. It is almost everywhere, it is very common. Finding it that is good to hone with, that's a little more tricky. I've had some turn out good and other that were a waste of wear and tear on equipment. All in all I have had a lot of fun with it.

todays gross productivity. They still need to be checked for small inclusions and cracks and trimmed and lapped, but it's a start. I have two and a half more rocks to go.It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 4826I need to upgrade what I am using. I need to go to a 10" wet saw. My poor little tile saw is getting kicked pretty hard. The Stihl works good for breaking it down. Sometimes I trim a little between the Stihl and the wet saw with a grinder. It's hard to get really nice even cuts with that 16" monster but it loves to eat rock. I'm out of gas and so is the saw. Good thing it is a long weekend.

Thanked: 4826I'm not sure what the question is. There are three different hones in that pile. Some are the same as ones you have seen before, one that might be very close to my original find and a new one. One of the rocks that I have to cut yet is also a new one. perhaps I will put some pictures up as I get them lapped.

Thanked: 375You guys make me jealous. I've had no time, between work, tearing down a sun room, and landscaping my yard after a backhoe destroyed my side yard. Although that last part kicked up quite a few large rocks in the yard. So maybe some potential there.
I honestly don't now what to use to cut these rocks up with. I have a radial arm saw, and miter saw. what kind of blade should I be using? Diamond?CHRIS
