[QUOTE=Wid;1358740]Got the hard and soft stones in today from Natural Whetstone. Had them custom cut to 8x2x1. That size just feels right in my hands.Got them lapped but still need to chamfer the edges. Might try and give them a run in the morning.
The hard stone (white) doesn't feel as smooth as the one from Dan's. That to me is a good thing as it should fit in the progression better than the Dan's stone. With the Dan's stone I think it was to fine for what it's intended purpose was.

My first brand newish set of stones came from the natural whetstone as mustly unused items that some guy bought two sets of and pocket stones.
The Clear black that's 10by3by1 made me sweet when I went to use it at my job when I was hearing a rough sharpening stone but it turned out extremely fine cause the stuff was so unused it wasn't even broken in good enough yet. Which is a problem I only hade with rock pile finds.
I only realized stones have a break in period a few years ago. Though I don't like the white hard that came with the stuff. My piece of soft Arkansas seems finer then that.

Finished an Aust today on a full Arkansas progression, from bevel set to finish. Surprising it didn't take long on the soft stone to set the bevel.
Went though the three stones, soft>hard>black and got the razor shave ready before even hitting the translucent stone.
This seems to have worked quite well as the resulting shave was very nice.
I think this worked better than having the Dan's stone in there. It seems to have been a bit finer than what I was looking for to fit in.

These stones I got still need a little more flatting and breaking in.
Rubbing a hard steel backing on my diamond plates is not rubbing the whole stone surface of
my stones that I got from a used market place.

I use a mudium sized surgical black from dans whetstones for my razor honing. Right to the leather strop from there! I lapped it on an old ceramic barbers hone, made it like glass.
