Thread: My coticules and thuringians collection

Hi folks,

With the nice sunshine and some spare time today, I've made a few snapshots of my current coticules and thuringians collection:

The largest coticules are 8x4" and the largest thuringian 7x2". They're all very nice stones and the reason why my Suehiro Gokymyo 20K doesn't get much use...

That is a very nice collection. I've been there and done that. Sold all but one of my Eschers, a yellow/green I'm keeping to use. Sold my other Thuringans as well. I haven't sold my coticules because the prices seem to have dropped to the point where it isn't worth it to me to take the hit. I am in the process of honing a razor from start to finish on each of them. One of the problems I've had when I acquired many stones in a short period of time is never getting to really "know" each individual stone. Anyway, for Haddicts collecting is enjoyable.

Thanks ! This is a collection I've been putting together over the last 3 or 4 years. I've had many more coticules which I have mainly traded or given away. The ones shown above all have given me great results and will very likely stay. And they're beautiful as well !

Having to "get to know" your hones is definately true for coticules and is a big part of the fun using them. For the thuringians/Escher I have experienced this differently: they all worked the same - delivering great shaving edges easily and consistently.

I always love the look of a natural belgian blue and coticule combo hone.

I've got one, and although it doesn't see much action (JNATs prevail in my home) I don't believe I'll ever sell it.

Thank you for sharing your collection, which was likely a lot of hard work to get to this point.

The bottom coti is obviously inferior! Send it my way for proper disposal.

Acquisition could be your middle name. That's a very nice array of stones. We drool.............

Thanks . There's only one natural combination stone (2nd from bottom), the two big ones (8x2", sorry for the typo in the first post) are glued to a BBW side (old style). Only the bout is from new stock (glued to schist), the others are all vintage stones from barber shops or from lots with other shaving gear. It took me quite a while to get this collection but it was worth it!

You've got good eyes - it's the finest of the lot . No need to go to a thuringian after finishing on this one ...

If I was to pick one it would be the stone next to the bout and the slurries. The one with the pink bits. Invariably fast cutters IME.
