Bobski have ordered 1 too and am now 2 weeks into the waiting. Bongo are you going to the meet. If so and it has arrived you're more than welcome to try it. Carbatec in balcatta have the dmt that is where I got mine. Figured if it's good enough for someone like Glen it's good enough for me.

There are 2 Shapton 30k stones, well, soon there will only be one as the GS line seems to be getting dropped but for the time being there is the 5mm GS & the 0.59" Pro which is still slightly thinner than the Gok 20.
If you have to do any serious stone removal go with a more aggressive approach but once you're there with the flatness the 325 will keep you in the ballpark.
This thread could just about warrant moving to the hones forum. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 104DMT325 for lapping the suehiro20k
The popular theory, is that the DMT is fine for lapping the Suehiro. I contacted Murray Carter a few weeks ago and he reckons you should keep diamonds away from waterstones. Murray has some different ideas, that most do not subscribe to, however I have an open mind on all things sharpening, so i at least listen before taking it on or dismissing it. On this, our forum, we may get a few different opinions, but, I have A dmt325 and I intend using it to flatten the Suehiro. I will however contact "tools from japan" and ask their opinion. The wet dry paper option will work, as we all start there, but the 20k is a dense hard stone and it may take a lot of paper, but in reality it's going to take a bloody long time to dish this thing out. You can get a DMT325 for about 60 bucks from Carbatec. Paper is about a dollar a sheet, so it will pay for itself fairly quickly

Thanked: 104Waiting time for the 20k Gokumyo
When I exchanged emails with the manufacturer (Tools from Japan), I was told they can't make them quick enough, being so popular. He said they usually keep 3 on hand, but some type of wait is expected. I ordered mine on the 27.9.14, so I imagine I'll have a couple more weeks of waiting. When yours arrives let us know.
Cheers Bob

Thanked: 104Waiting time-DMT325 for the Gok 20k
Eddy, I contacted Stuart Tierney the owner of the store we ordered the stone from. He is packing them to be sent out tomorrow, so it won't be too long. Re the DMT325 to lap them. He said, they should be fine, but not brand new, they need to stabilise by flattening a dozen or so razors. It knocks down the protruding particles in the plate. He couldn't say 100%, but is fairly certain it's OK, so I'll be using my DMT325. Apparently, like many retailers, 'Tools from Japan" wait for their stock to arrive. His Suehiro order arrrived yesterday hence the delay, but a week or so should do it.
Regards Bob

Thanks for the heads up on the shipping. The 20k is part of the reason I got atoma as apparently it cuts quickly and doesn't get stuck like the dmt 325 does. Will have to break it in though before I use it

Apparently the Atoma doesn't need to be 'broken in' like the DMT (at least mine didn't), Eddy, but YMMV
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Thanked: 104Re the gokumyo 20k
G'day Ed, i got an email just now from Stuart Tierney of Tools from Japan. He tells me that the stones went out yesterday and we can expect them in 3 to 5 business days, so should be next week late I guess. The bloke Stuart, is a good fellow, and I'm sure we'll get our stones soon.
Cheers, Bob
