I agree with JimmyHAD & eKretz.
I imagine not using a strop can work but I haven't tried it & don't think I ever will.

Just don't get one someone used on their lawnmower blade!
Just kidding, I know you wouldn't. If you do get one, it should last you a lifetime because they aren't used as much as other hones. If I remember right, it was Glen & Don who had a discussion about it at a meet & they came up with the 3-2-1 method. I need to go back & watch the vid.
