Oh, as do I. Just not all that different from the edges I get off other coticules. Rideon66 is considering a hybrid Les Latneuses. Nothing wrong with that, they are visually often stunning. If you are looking for a distinctly different edge 'feel', it's just another coticule and I would see no point in getting one.

And I was honestly hoping that we were beyond "Escher VS Thuringian". An Escher is a Thuringian with a brand name and a sticker, hence more collectible, nothing else. Recommending they try an Escher edge thus seems a bit silly to me. Eschers are Thuringians that come with a big, fat collectors premium and unbranded Thuringians can be had for much, much less. If someone wants to try a thuringian, I have no problem with that. I enjoy mine, it's a fun little stone.

But then again, in a blind test I doubt I could tell the difference between a good Thüringer edge and a good coticule edge. In fact, I can't, as I have finished at least two razors in my current rotation on my Thüringer, but I have no idea which ones. I honestly can't tell.

Pithor i hope youve seen my Smile i added after the Thuri / Escher thing ;-) and yes there is not a big differnce.....on the other Hand a lot of those stones have a very very good quality as beeing specially choosen...

Is that worth the to pay that much more? I have to admit that in the end concerning the result...i would say no...but they are such nice stones...

Concerning the edge, i am shure there is a difference in the feeling the edge from a coti and a thuringian comes of...i cant really explain it but my wife fex. feels quite well which stones has been used when shaving her legs....i also have to admit here this works only to a certain point (1-6) shaves...

I have been reading on the coticule love page on another site. Those guys have real HAD, but have some really nice stones. They all seem to say they get a much keener and smoother edge from their hybrid Les Latneuses. I think they may own all that exist though. I use to think these were rare after seeing that thread I think they are just being held onto. If you don't want to start a HAD don't go to that thread. It will make you love these rocks even more.

Oh and I have not owned either one, but on the Thuri / Escher thing I have seen and read alot and everyone says they are the same stone. Even the listings selling them. I have had a razor finished on a Escher, and the edge was almost like my coti. I think they guy doing it first had better skills than me and he also used several other stones leading up to the esher. So the razor seemed a bit keener.

Sorry, I failed to interpret it as intended. Every now and then I notice people specifically praising Escher Thuringians, hence my response.

I assume you mean the Badger & Blade thread. Indeed, a whole lot of nice stones there, although sometimes it seems some people hoard rather than collect. And then there are hypes. As far as coticules go, the layers being the most popular are the La Veinnette and Les Latneuses. I don't quite know why (although apparently the La Veinnette layer is rather homogenous), as I haven't noticed them performing in any way better than other coticules, just differently. Incidentally, the one I had most troubles with was a select La Veinnette. It was also my first coticule

People have different experiences, though. But based on my own experiences and those of others who've had the opportunity to try a lot of different coticules (such as Bart Torfs, who has probably tried more coticules than I've had sandwiches), I am convinced that differences in coticules depend much more on how they are used and by whom than on the specific coticule or the layer it is from.

Finishing is often overestimated. In sharpening a razor, everything you do before the finish makes up 99% of the end result. The finish is, literally, just the finishing touch. Also, if you just finish on water on a coticule you don't really add any significant sharpness. You rather add smoothness, or 'that coticule kinda feel'. Judging the potential keenness that can be reached on a specific coticule by using it with water only is like judging how well someone can swim by watching them run the 100 metre dash.

I have la veinette and la grise. While my veinette seems to provide a slightly better HHT at the finishing stage, after stropping I cannot tell the edges appart both by the hht and the quality of the shave.
