Oh, and I use mine for kitchen knives sometimes, gives a pretty good edge there. The honing feel/feedback on slurry is pretty nice. With knives and a little more pressure it will self-slurry a little bit.

These DBs come in quite a range, I've one that's coarse enough for bevelsetting and I had 2 fine enough for finishing. I assume most are in the middle.

Spray it down with oven cleaner and scrub a couple of times, wash in soapy water, then soak in simple green, I use tall thin glass or plastic jars with lids from the thrift store.

Oven cleaner will get a lot of the surface grit and oil off. Once in the jars or tub, setting in the sun will speed the process.

That will show it who's the boss I've had good results just leave stones to soak in dishwashing soap for a couple of days. It dissolves grease after all. But I guess for porous stones the method mentioned above will work better.

Long ago when I only had an Arkansas surgical black for honing I would degrease it in the dishwasher. Works a treat.

Do you have a source for surgical blacks in Europe? I have been looking for one and I'm not a big fan of paying import taxes
