So did you try heating it?

I didn't, there was a lot of built up crap around the stone and i was scrapping it off a little and it looks like the stone may be pretty thin, so i decided to just let it be in its old wooden shoe

Not to make you change you mind, but does the dark spot look like a hybrid area to you?

I cant rule that out indeed, as i said, it is definatley harder than my other stone and very glassy.
Im gonna clean all the gunk from around the sides with some wet and dry until it is all visible stone and see what i can see.
