how much is a full set including the gokumyo 20k vs just a gokumyo 20k?

I have found a one stone method is very effective and convenient not to mention just plain fun.

Thanks for posting this thread and video.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

Given that the results for the 1 stone method are generally positive, would it make sense for a total honing novice to go that route with the Gokumyo 15k or 20k?

I own a couple of straights and will be adding to my collection but I don't foresee myself honing for anyone bar myself. If I ever get to the stage of having to truly set a bevel, I'm not averse to using 1k wet & dry paper on a glass backing.

In the end this would be a "it's your stone/razor/money" question...but a suggestion if you are just starting out would be what many of us consider to be a very versatile hone, the 12K Nan. Coupled with a Crox something (strop/paddle/balsa and please get the good stuff) you can maintain a razor (as long as you don't ding it) "forever".

You will need something to Lap/clean it with and I found the DMT to work well, and do double duty when you are tuning up all those kitchen knives (that your Brother In Law used for (woodworking, firewood prep, auto-body repair)) for instance...have not used the alternate lapping method so no comment.

    Just a thought...

Congratulations on perhaps being the first person ever to start with a gokumyo!

I was thinking sooner or later someone would ask this, and would it actually be practical. I think MJC's advice of the nani 12k is very solid advice, and if you prefer the conservative way you would be very happy.
But if you're willing to watch a few youtube vids, and take a few slow and careful first steps, I'll go out on a limb and say yes, I think the gok will reward you for it.
I've only used the 20k, so can't comment on the 15, and make sure you get a slurry stone with it (1000/3000k if possible).
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

    Thanks for your thoughts.

I still have a month to go before I would need to place my order and a lot can change in a month but I would definitely make sure that a 1k/3k was part of the deal otherwise I would choose the conservative route.
