Thanked: 90Charnley Forest?
Question for those with a charnley forest. What do you think of the final finish?
Next would you go from a thuri to a CF, coti to CF?
Currently I go from coticule to a very nice Droescher b/g or y/g thuri i can't figure out color it is kind of striped.

it depends on how fine of a finish the Charnley gives every one is different as to where they will fit in your progression only you can find that out . now i have a few Charnley they all give a very sharp edge "crisp edge"

Thanked: 4828I never go from one finisher to the next. If I am finishing on an Escher that's where I stop. Same with the coticule and HGH. I run my hone progression and get to a finisher, any finisher and that's it. My CF is not a great finisher so in my case if I was using it I would finish on another.

Thanked: 90I should add that I only use coticules and thuri. I go from bevel to shavable edge with thuri finish. All natural stones. Now I do use 5 different coticules not needed, but each adds a bit plus I use the BBW layer on my vintage stones and finish on the hybrid LL. It is a coti progression and final finish on the thuri. Works great. So wondering if charnley would be after the thuri or just skip thuri for a different finish feel.

Thanked: 4828To put things in a synthetic order. My Charnley comes after the 4K, I lack any low grit naturals. My progression starts 1K Chosera, 4K Norton and then if I am going for as many naturals as I can it is Charnley and then Goldfisch and then finish.

Thanked: 4828I slurry almost everything. Although not the thick muddy slurry that you see cuticle guys using.

Thanked: 90I know each one is different and that will make a huge difference on how it is used. Worst case I get a new knife hone. Best case I get a really fine finisher. Just wanted some real world insight if I ended up with a nice finisher how I would use it in my honing progression. I like to play and figure stones out, but the more I know when I start the easier it is.
also most of my razors a old sheffield wedges. I like the feel and the challenge.Last edited by rideon66; 09-21-2015 at 01:46 AM.
