    Weird....
    Hi there,

I've had a La Verte that felt the same way during honing, somehow gravelly , but the edges and shaves off the stone were fine .

But in the end I traded it away and as I never got used to the feeling...

During our meeting in Adennnes last autumn I had few hones which were behaving in simmilar manner as you describe from new. however after I relapped them on Maurizio's DMT and used them on knife steel is smoothened most of it out.

Have you tried honing on the bout? How does that feel?

That is almost definitely a Les Petas. Many have that swirly pattern.
