I thought about buying one a few months ago but it's a natural like others have said & you just can't put a number on the grit of a natural. The seller claimed it was from Italy but could never prove it. I think it is in another thread on here. I'm not sure but I think he is or used to be a member on here. You can find it on eBay from 2 sellers mainly & if you look at the location each seller is from, it is the same state. He has a premium grade & claims "Individually razor tested". BS!!! He also says they are "hand picked". Okay, whatever. The OP may have bought his from a different seller, I don't know. When one person says it is from Italy & another says South America, red flags go up for me! I'm glad I didn't buy it. I bought a Snow White instead. At least I know what I got plus I have a few naturals too & I love them. I truly think the OP would be much happier with a different natural.
There is a guy selling a used right now from VA & he basically says what the other sellers say. Besides that, if it is so good, why is he selling it.

Thanked: 169Assigning grit ratings to naturals is a slippery slope. There is too much variance. I've had naturals behave differently just lapping into a different part of the rock.. It's hard enough with different synth lines not behaving similarly at the same labeled grits. You never know what you have till you bring your edge to a point you are familiar with and then see if whatever you move on to refines the edge or not.

I Agree! I was looking for the thread that I saw on it before but now I'm gating sleepy so I think i'll call it a night. I will say this. The OP might be happy with it but then again he may not & was asking about it. Perhaps he should have researched it before he bought it. I did find a thread where they were selling for about $20 but they are way up there now so I'm content with all I have.
Have a good one. I'll be back later today.

Thanked: 169In my mind I have a cost cutoff for new rocks. If they meet or exceed what an unlabeled thuri in a fair size or a trans/sb ark would roughly run, I stand back and let the dust settle with early adopters. A lot of the time, they disappear once the hype goes away and ppl are still buying thuris and arks and the proven quantities.

I think I would since they went up. If they were still cheap, it may not be a bad idea to at least try but the sellers of these stones you first inquired about can't even come up with the right place they come from like it's some Top Secret! I don't like dealing with people who are like that. If I did have one when they were selling for less, I would compare it to other naturals under a microscope to try & determine what they actually are.
I take it you are only looking for a good finisher at the moment. The Naniwa 12k would be a nice one for that. There are also others but I think you are making a wise decision. At first I thought you had purchased one of the Imperia la Roccia. I'm not bashing it but like i said, when one does not prove where it came from, it raises red flags for me. Here is the thread i was looking for:

Quote from another member here:
"Seriously, ..... Glad I read this thread now as was kinda considering trying this stone.. (duno why really as I have plenty proven finishers at my disposal) but I too would really like to know the true origin of this stone,, or I would feel a bit 'mugged' regardless of the price..
Is this another case of 'made in China' being passed off as made in 'Italy' this time?
Shame if it is, coz I would have actually purchased the stone regardless of it coming from China, as the price is very reasonable for a finisher compared to the proven stones of pedigree,,, but to be deceived over the origin of said item of interest does put me off purchasing big time!"
It seams the person mentioned by Gugi here in the thread was banned & here is the post from that thread why & the thread was closed:

As I mentioned in a previous post, the vendor on eBay was most likely a member here. I do not like dishonesty either!Last edited by engine46; 02-24-2016 at 07:20 PM.

I understand my friend. According to some members, they like it & I'm happy for them. I just have a problem with sellers who try to promote their items they sell just to make their wallet fatter. Perhaps you can sell it or it might work out better for you as a knife sharpener if you sharpen knives.
I wish you better luck in the future.

Thanked: 246He didn't buy the ILR stone as I understand it, just wanted to hear about others' experiences to help him make a decision about buying one. The stone he bought that didn't work out was something else. - maybe you caught that but wasn't sure. What stone was that Oustoura?
