Thanked: 66I thought I would update that I received my Suehiro Gokumyo 20k in the mail yesterday, (I ordered on the 11th, it shipped on the 19th and Received on 25th with EMS)
I also ordered a Chosera Pro 3k for fun.
Today I tried it out on an old JR&S that I had never honed.
1k Chosera
3k Chosera
8K side of Norton
12k SS
20K GS20
Vintage Illinois #127 Linen/Horse hide
So far so good, I won't say that it’s working insanely better than my previous progression, but Euclid440 pretty much summarized as to why.
I wanted to thank all of you for the help, its been awhile since HAD got to me, but there is still a hole missing, should be fun trying to figure out what to go with between 3k and 12k because I want to ditch the norton for no other reason than I am addicted, the first step is admitting I have a problem.Last edited by sidmind; 05-27-2016 at 01:55 AM.

Thanked: 66Funny you mention that, I was thinking along these lines exactly, I was playing with my Chosera 3k tonight and really enjoy the rubbery feel along with the way it loads up (or doesn't to be exact), that was always one thing I hated about the Norton and in a way the SS 12k, its like drawing on it with a pencil every time you hone (specifically the corners of a razor), especially if you want to hone a knife, my OCD kicks in and I have to clean it with a DMT, the Chosera just doesn't have that problem. Of course that is assuming the higher grit Chosera (or snow) works the same as the 1k&3k
Been reading up on the difference between the 'Original' snow white that CKTG sells, vs the newer one, opinions?Last edited by sidmind; 05-27-2016 at 06:52 AM.

Thanked: 66CKTG has the 'Original snow white' and the new 'traditional snow white' both are the magnesia binder from the Chosera line and not to be confused with the SS, but the 'Original is 110 bucks vs the new one for 87. supposedly the 'new' one is better according to Naniwa, but people like the older one as its closer to a Chosera in feel, personally I wonder if people like the older one cause it has all the stamps on it, and the new one doesn't.

You need the original the new one is not the same CKTG sell the original, here's a very good review of the stone, I've actually stop honing at that stone stropped the razor and shaved IMO it's the best 8K you can buy.

Thanked: 66Original it is then, and the wife just gave the go ahead to order it. I will have to wait on the Chosera 5k until I sell some things on Ebay, Either a few straights or watches (I collect/repair/restore/flip watches for spare fun money) as well as flip vintage stones and/or the 600 some odd Arkansas stones I have, all blems or rough cuts from Dans that I lap on my professional lapping machine I also purchased from Dan's (they had a spare)
I have way to many hobbies, and gearing up to be able to make knives and/or regrind old razors, I have tons of old ones that I picked up for a few bucks each that need more work than just a bezel set.
Its getting late and I am rambling, so have a good one and thanks for the conversation.

Thanked: 3215Yup, the one you want is the old one, (AKA IF-0001 Junpaku). It is a very nice 8k. They were carrying both, for a while there.
But, you really don’t need it, if you are finishing on other stones. It does feel smooth and cuts fast, but the finish is an 8k finish that will be wiped by the next stone.
I have bought from CKTG and they are good and very fast. Check out their 400/1k diamond plate, at $35, it is a great Diamond plate for lapping and repair work. I mean, since your ordering…
