Thanked: 104Soaking or not re superstones.
It's been said that the naniwa superstones are splash and go. The lower the grit the more they drink. I have always put mine in water for no more than 5 mins, seems they remain wet and just feel right. But I don't think it makes any difference once you go past 8k level.
Cheers Bob

Thanked: 3795The Chosera, now called the Pro, hones seem to be thirstier than the Specialty (formerly SuperStone) hones. Unlike the Specialty hones that for the most part hold the water on the surface, the Pros seem to repeatedly draw sprayed water into the hones. This means that they are considered to be more thirsty. However, after multiple sprayings, or just a one minute soak, they are pretty much good to go. The Naniwa Snow White 8k seems to behave in this same manner as the Naniwa Pro hones.

Between you, me, and the gatepost, I've been using that 3k chosera for bevel setting on razors that are in real good shape instead of the 1k, and it is working out well so far. Mastro Livi did this in a video where a guy sent one of his razors to him for repair. I tried it and I like it. YMMV.

Thanked: 66Here are a few of my naturals, at least the ones I have at the workbench, another 300+ in the garage, mostly Arkies of all shapes and sizes, that I got from Dan's quarry as blems.
Yes, just showing off, what good is it to post in a hone forum without showing hone porn.
And from a thread the other day, here are just the german water stones.
