Why not try another? That is what a lot of us do. Keep going until you find the one.

When Ardennes first began marketing coticules someone posted a thread saying they had 2 'kosher' cotis on their website. I bought one and Randy bought the other. Anyway, unbeknownst to me it was a La Veinette. At that stage of the game I had never heard of the named veins. They were after all, simply a way for those workers at the quarry to know where in the mine they were working.

I was pleased with the creamy appearance, and disappointed with the performance. It is an 8x2 and I tried it with slurry, water only, this method, that method. One day a couple of years later I had a TI 'super gnome' 5/8 that was shaving for me but needed a touch up. I got it in my head to use that La Veinette. i did sets of 10 round trips and marked each one on a piece of paper to keep track. This was water only from beginning to end.

After each 10 I would strop on leather only and then try HHT. I did 16 sets of 10 before I finally got it to where from point to heel it was doing an effortless HHT and then I shaved. That razor was as sharp and as smooth as any I've ever had or have. The edge lasted a long time to boot. So leave the microscope out of the equation and hone it for sharp/smooth feel. As I've often wondered when I wasn't getting results out of a hone .......... is it the hone ........ or is it me ?

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Yeah same thing with me - i can get very nice shaving edge of coticules , but it is a long and painfull honing truyng
And it is hard effect to achieve and hard to make it twice
Depend of the mood and the movements of the honer
Unlike cotis jnats and thuries do not need that concentration - they are easy and gave consistent results every time
I have 2 - 3 hard cotis and i sold one to Caccia , a well respected member here
The stone was a hard and very fine - a slow speed stone Gave very smooth edges , but with effort
Caccia tell me that the stone was very good also so i guess the effect from the coticule in the finishing stage depends of the skills and how well you know your coticule
