Did you dish soap the DMT after you let the WD sit a minute?

Yes. The spot disappeared; thought I was good. Hard to believe 45 or 50 seconds on an oilstone can impart so much oil. I wonder if it is something else. Maybe I've damaged the coating?

There is an issue with DMT's that I have not figured out either,,, I have a DMT 325 that is my original from 6 years ago,,,, been through h*ll. It will still cut & cleans great. I bought a new 325 & a 1200 about 2 years ago,,, both are a ba*tard to remove oil & when it looks clean , the DMT still leaves gray on my water stones,,, the ironic part is,,, I use the beat to h*ll DMT to remove the gray left by the new DMT's. It could be something to do with the coatings on some DMT's.

I can say that the gray left by the DMT's on my waterstones, is stain & not swarf. But I hate to see stain on my 4/8 Norton.

I have tried many different cleaners on the two problem DMT's with limited success.

Yeah, sounds like what I'm experiencing.
Does the gray intefere with the slurry process, blade edge, or cause problems with your waterstones?
Or do you just not use them for that when the issue arises?Mike

I have not found a problem with the stain interfering with the cutting of the stone.
