I've never had the pleasure of seeing one up close and personal. I remember Sham got one and posted that it was the absolute best razor hone he had ever had .......... right before he put it on ebay and sold if for BIG $ ..........
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 459I'd say that about the OVB hone that I have that was $15. But then it'd only sell for $15 if I sold it!!
I have two razor hones, I used to have a pile of frictionites that I sold for a friend, they had a heavenly feel, but I can't really tell much difference between various hones as my razors are addicted to linen and I try not to remove the edge completely.
Fineness, for us, is an easy thing to find. It's available cheap, and substrates to use with pigments and abrasives are cheap even if the submicron stones might not be.
For the axe guy who needs a stone that can be used dry and that is as fine as possible, I can see why they'll spend the money. They know they can get it back, and not much else will do (though I think I could touch my axe up between heats pretty easily with an oilstone). Only problem, no heats to try it. Have the axes, but no heats.

So a quick month in update.
This stone ended my HAD and led to the mass sell off of most of my stones.
My suggestion to people is that when you get a chance to get what you're after do it. It might just be what you're looking for.

Norton Razor Hone
I just picked this one up in a lot I bought at an Antiques store. I'll try it out this week.

Thanked: 101I am always looking for good barber hones at flea markets, auctions & garage sales. My to favorite Barber hones are my John Primble & Clearcut. Both of them scored very high at the barber hone shoot out at the other forum. The Clearcut may just edge out the Primble but both are great for touch up's. That said I would love to have a Norton. Just have to keep looking.
I am hoping to get either a 16K Shapton glass or a 15K Shapton Pro after my "B" day.

Thanked: 480Word of advice to all you barber hone folks. If you get the urge to lap your hone flat... Just Dont. Unless its obviously worn, and NEEDs flattening. Otherwise your just making trouble for yourself.
