Norton Razor Hone
Well after 2 years of searching, waiting and saving pennies. I finally acquired what I have been after since I started. The legendary Norton Razor Hone.
The price is a little high but for the performance I believe well worth it. It is a high performance barber hone that I have used successfully as a one stone honing solution.
I killed an edge with 2 pressured jointing strokes. Used the red side to give it an edge that easily shaved arm hair. I then proceeded to smooth and refine that edge on the black side. Stropped and easily passing a hanging hair test, the thumb pad test and the shave test. Wow what a shave, no redness or irritation. I don't want to make the price of these any higher because I think that more razor users should get the joy to use one of these instead of them wasting away on axes.

Thanked: 480I'm really glad it went to a good home! It took me 7 years to find one that had not been beaten like a redheaded step child. It will probably take another 7 to replace it! (as soon as I am flush again!)

Thanked: 66Very nice. Have you tried frictionite or other similar hones to compare their use to the Norton?

Thanked: 480Frictionite was nothing like the Norton imo. It makes a fine edge, but is a bit slower to do so. Many hones LOOK like it, but none seem quite as fine on the fine side. Well, some FEEL as fine, but at least seem to overhone if not careful. Oh, and Nice Photo Soldier, mine looked lousy in comparison. =P

I had one several years back. It was a good stone. Not sure what you paid for it but I moved mine on down the road quite cheap... Are they something special now?

They're OK, even good, but not worth the incredible figures they now command. I sold mine to an axe guy (I presume he was) and bought some nice razors and hones with the very considerable proceeds.

I paid what they usually go for. They are only something special if you think they are.
Agreed this Barber hone is in it's own league. Aside from a few nips in the stone that aren't harmful to its performance this thing was hardly, if ever used.

Thanked: 32I've owned two. Paid less than 20 bucks for each one. I find them ok, and kept one just for the collection but I don't use it much. Hope I don't offend anyone by saying this, but I think they're the most overrated synth in existence. They're great stones, but not worth more than 100 bucks for a razor guy IMO.
