That's curious, Eschers and Thuringians don't sparkle.

Just got home and did some investigating .
In normal light it is dull but with my nitecore headlamp on, there are lots of tiny reflective bits. I guess that's not the same as sparkling but there are defiantly tiny particles that reflect the light so maybe not sparkly but reflective????
If its not an Escher ill eat it :/

Black with sparkles reminds me of a Pierre La Lune Special Stone for razors....definitely glittery when wet, can't miss it, no sparkles on any of my three labelled Eschers.
And the La Lune is truly deep black....Last edited by Phrank; 03-29-2017 at 05:51 PM.

Its defiantly dark blue and not black.. You have to take your time and move it slowly to catch the light and there are just tiny little parts that are smooth so they reflect the light.
I did spend some time with a Tomo on it to try and really smooth the surface and I cant get any other sides to reflect light apart from some bits where I left that smooth shiny film that gets created from lack of use.
Yesterday I re honed my Hart Replica Blue steel because I had a feeling that it wasn't the Escher that let me down but the synthetic progression before hand .
It had been a long time since I'd use synthetics and those Harts can be dodgy.
This time I nailed it and gave it 100 laps on the wet Escher (alleged Escher) . It is crazy sharp and I cant wait to test it out on Saturday ..
I'll report back after the shave ..

Just checked my labelled blue/green with 4" slurry stone. (all in a wooden Escher gumwood box) and neither has any reflective bits at all. Checked it in a dark room with a high power flash light. Dull as a honing video.
I've never known anyone to eat a stone, though holli4pirating liked to lick them. I'd suggest running it through a food processor first, then garnish with horseradish ........Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I need some way to get it verified . I'll have a better idea after I shave off it..
Could well be £140 for a tatty box.

Looking at the fit of the stone in the original box it sure looks 'right.' Perfect fit with the slurry stone gone. Also the saw cut marks on the side look like an escher to me. Years ago an ebay seller in Germany, DPcollect, sold a yellow/green escher, same size, same box. The stone was mint and had the same black and white label. I don't recall if the stone itself was labelled but there was no end label designating color. The stone had an ink stamp on the face that said 'gelb-grun'. (yellow/green) So anyway, whatever it is, if it turns out to be a great finisher it is a good buy.

I purchased it from a guy in Germany who had sold other Escher's and Razors with perfect feedback.
I emailed him and asked politely for his knowledge on the matter..
One thing that makes me think it is genuine is that shiny skin it forms when out of use , as pointed out by Geezer..
Saturday : I will either have a BBS shave or broken teeth
