Mind you say something to the guy selling the junk pocket knives. Got three, sweet, W&B's that way....cheap.!!

Great minds think alike, my friend! Nice tip on the pocket knives guy, I see him all the time. I'll be hitting him up soon I think.

Tuzi This is 100% right, frequent, frequently. I hit the same place close to me and there was always the same stuff, I noticed a new box. It was a Wosty box with a W&B FBO inside! Great deal for me but I bet I have went there 10 plus times to look at the same stuff.

Wow, what a score ya got there Tuzi. Even when you didn't say what they were, I see some nice rocks there.
There aren't any nice flea markets around here like in the old days, too commercialized.

I've been cleaning up and lapping these hones and I'd like to share them with better pics and hopefully we can see them a little better. Probably going to be a little pic heavy.

I'll start with the coticule. I tried to get better pics of the stamps and it looks to me like an S.R. Droesher (SRD) stamp top and center.

This one I think might be a small Charnley Forest. Unfortunately there are splits and cavities throughout and its hard to get a clean smooth surface.

Hopefully this is a better picture of this one. It looks, feels, and acts like a big piece of what barber hones are made of. The surface shows small divots or pock marks throughout.

This one I think is Welsh purple slate, cleaned up and lapped nicely! It's a thick chunk.

    Then the Tam-O-Shanter...

Then there is the mystery tan hone. It turned out to be a fantastic finisher so I am very pleased. It was really dished and I had to take away a lot of material to flatten. It's a softer stone, slurries easily. The slurry has a silky smooth feel. I bonded it to a piece of flooring tile for support because it's soft and a little thin on it's own. I don't know what type of stone this is.

Very nice stones! The purple slate may be thuri. I have a purple slate and it doesn't have that look. It looks more like my thuri's. I'm not an expert tho.
The tan maybe Coticule? A closer straight on shot of the top may help.
    Great haul!

The two translucent Arkansas stones I sent to Dan's Whetstone for lapping. They came back today and I couldn't be happier! The one that is narrower has some cracks on one end but it held together on the lapping machine so that's good. They did a great job there and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a very hard Arkansas stone resurfaced.

There were five stones in wooden boxes, all of which I think are vintage Washitas. Three of them needed resurfacing so they are currently at Dan's. I was able to lap the other two myself. Nice.

    Hiya,

Got a few stones that I know zero about except they might be decent ones........or maybe not. In any case all three were very reasonably priced so no big deal if they're junk.
