You are in a great location for stones. Get to know the French stones also. They also shaved!!

The razor hones are everywhere. It is just that they go unrecognized and the to the junk shops as useless things to get rid of.

Remember, scratches a bunch (as though someone used an awl to scratch them), a transparent (like a varnish)skin, and the usual form factors make them easily recognized.

I had about 15 rescued from the wild before i downsized. Most were under USD$10.
Get to know the dealers and go to flea markets in your are. The stones are often found in old tool boxes or pails at such places. Get to know the Coticules also, they show up often.
When you find one at a dealer that you know pay more than he asks! Just say something like " Nice old stone, would you keep and eye out for more like this? Ask him to watch for more for you. I have had a couple stones saved for me by dealers.

Great advice, the man know what he's talking about! It's essential that you have those conversations with the dealers. They usually have much more inventory than they brought with them to the flea market. Stones are heavy, they make their way to the bottom of containers, you need to dig! Also the dealers have piles of odd stuff piled up somewhere in a garage or barn, and stones being heavy they made their way to to bottoms of those piles too. Sometimes you have to get the dealers motivated to go dig 'em out and bring them along to the flea market. Keep looking, it's a thrill to find them!
