Just thinking of using oil on one side and water/glycerine on the other. Would have to remove the label of course.

Looks like both are the same and my guess is Nicolas treats both sides the same then puts the label on one side. I am not an oil guy though and find that the right concentration of water/glycerin mimics oil very well. Also I believe these stones are very dense and would not absorb oil so I think one can use oil and just wash off with soap and water or simple green afterwards.
