Let is know what you think Alex. Do you have a Black Shadow?
I don't Steve. Will test the green one and see.

Back to the 1k "Chosera" (Naniwa Pro), how splash-n-go is it? how fast to dry out after a honing session? Maybe a one-minute pre-soak? followed by a one-day dry out?

Ok, so now I have a 1k Chosera coming today.

How do I treat it out of the box?

Do I lap it with the same old 400 diamond plate that I use on all my Naniwa SS?

Do I need a pencil grid to lap off or do I just open the box and give it a rub with the Brown Nagura?

I've seen that some people give it a very short soak and I've read that a Cosera should never be soaked at all so any advice would be appreciated.

I want to take it for a drive today, I found a razor that I have had trouble setting the bevel on and put aside for a while, I think that might be the kiddie to introduce to my new big green beast.

Do I need to lap it with my old 400 diamond plate that I use for my Naniwa Superstones, do I need to draw a grid before lapping it or will just wearing off the printing be enough, or do I just rub it with the Nagura (brown turd).

    Grid and lapp it.

Then lap the brown turd, no grid.

Rinse them off....your ready to hone.

Steve, Chosera stones are incredibly thirsty stones, so you are going to have to drop them in water for a minute or two and spray it regularly when in use, and yes mark out a grid and lap the stone, dry it in a cool dry area away from direct sunlight, treat them the same way has the Naniwa Super stones, make sure you soak the brown dressing stone before use or it will not move over the stone, also make sure you clean the Chosera stone under running water after using the small dressing stone, you do not want any particles off that stone on your other stones, it's about 400 grit.

    Phew, that was lucky Mike.

I gridded the stone and lapped it off with a 400 plate and bevelled the edges a bit, I then lapped the turd on the 400 as well and bevelled its edges and corners.

It doesn't seem to matter how much water I put on the stone, the turd just sucked it off.

I just put a bevel on one of my razors, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed, my other 1k stones took much longer. Maybe mines broke

I set a good bevel on the razor I tried today, Go Chosera!!

I put tape on the spine but an extra layer on one side because it had a bigger bevel.

    40 half strokes, 20 10 5. 30 circles, 15, 10, 5. 40 x-strokes.

Now I know it's set, over set.

Gently joined it on the corner of the stone. 6 light x-strokes check, 6 more check, 6 more check and now I'm cooking with gas. No sparklies so I gave it 60 on English Bridal leather and tested it again, my goodness the strop made it sharper.

So Happy, tomorrow I will either run through the Naniwa progression or give it a rub on my Coticule.

I probably over did it setting the bevel and I'm sure there's a better way but this does the trick, I would love to know how you set your bevels though Mike.

Your'e not wrong about being thisty Jamie, I didn't soak either of the stones, just sprayed them and the brown stone kept sucking the water right off the Chosera, I'll soak the brown one next time. Do I need to soak the Chosera?
