I've made a rough pass through this thread and started working on a chart or table ranging them from coarse to fine, based on what posters have said.

I am assuming, for the moment, that the combination hones labled Dubl Duk, OVB, Reliance, and Tosorial Gem are all equivalent since the two I have (DD and Reliance) are, and the other two look identical from all I can tell here. That might be a problem, but I think it needs to be shown that they are actually different.

    So here goes, very tentatively:

    • Winner Combo, Brown Side: 4000
    • Dubl Duk et. al. Combo Grey Side: 4000
    • Old Norton Combo: 4000
    • Simmons/Keen Kutter combo, Black Side: 6000
    • Winner Comb. White Side: 8000
    • Old Norton Comb: 8000
    • Simmons/Keen Kutter Combo Grey Side: 10,000
    • Dubl Duk et. al. Combo brown side: 10,000-11,000 (?)

Not sure how to rank the Swatys: we have 2 lines of text, 3 lines of text, branded "Three Line Swaty," Pikes, SRDs, "Long" Swatys

Maybe some Swatiographer can plug in those values.

Is this getting anywhere near being roughly accurate?

@ Lawson,,,,I would think that your estimates are too low. I am thinking that the finish side of a barber hone would be around 10-12k at least.

@ Ron..... Quit calling my Swatys bastards, they are as much family as the rest of my Swaty's. You can be so insensitive at times!

Hey, blame the parents, not the child. Your little bastard is a great hone!

They might indeed be--I'm just summarizing what folks have said on this thread. These aren't my opinions, just a synopsis of others' estimates.

Obviously corrections and refinements are exactly what we want!

    Default 1915 CARBO

Finally got to try out this 1915 CARBO. I can tell you that this thing is hard, it took a long time to lap.
After advice from SRP member Croaker on another thread I used it as an intermediate hone. After setting the bevel on the DMT 1200 I went to the Carbo. This is where I would normally use the BBW, But after 20 laps on the Carbo this Bengall was poping arm hairs 5mm above my arm with very little resistance. After that I gave it a bit more polishing on the coti and got a really sweet shave from it tonight.
A very nice hone, I'll be hanging onto this one.

What was the process in which you used the 1915 Carbo, did you use plain water or slurry stone for instance? I have one myself and I'm a little stuck on the caracteristics of it. I dont really have anything to compare it to in other words.

    Thanks

Yep, just plain water. You could probably use lather too if you prefer.

The C-MON barber hones have the same size, shape, and stickers too. (Different color dyes, IIRC. The coarse side is blue.)
