I soak all my Natural stones and had no problem with that at all. I've Been Told of miners that natural stones mines is very wet and have a lot of water in them so soaking you stone should not be a problem. And many Japanese soak they very very hard stones. But you have to be sure that you stone is Lacquered.

I used them without soaking and got a result that I wanted and expected. I would say you can go without soaking them.

Considering how soft these stones are said to be, and how small they are, I wonder how quickly they wear? How long do they last?

Thanked: 49My botan and mejiro nagura arent hard Stones, theyre pretty soft but my koma is very hard and it is not easy to create à good slurry with it.
