I really don't know what is the reason.
when i sharpen blade i usually try to get best out of steel.
i have notes lets say my last red imperial i honed on had very hard time finish on Any Japanese stones which i have.
As soon as i switch to escher work was done.
Now that razor is not something special (stainly steel, cast steel etc).
then i had couple more different makers same result.
we are talking only for last stage of honing last finishing strokes.
I get used to this already as soon as i cannot get what i want i switch the stones.
This makes my job a lot easier.
Sharpening part i have never notes any differences. lower grit stones just moves the steel .

My Oozuku Asagi I got from Maxim leaves a veery nice edge as well. I've only experimented with it a little, but I found that going from slurry to water worked quite well for me.
Have Fun!

Sham,
The stone IS hard from what I can tell, I can't scratch it, but the Oozuku is harder still. Like we said though hardness and finess aren't the same. It takes a while to build slurry on the nakayama with tomonagura.
We will need to trade stones lol

RE: Maxim: do you know if he has more stones beyond what you see on his site? There's a suita now that looks very tempting, but by the time I have the money to buy it, it'll probably be gone. Now you've got me really interested in Oozuku asagis, incidentally!
EDIt: it's an Oozuku suitaLast edited by PA23-250; 01-23-2011 at 04:30 AM.

In case anyone is still suffering from Jnat Pron withdrawals here is a link to the Oozuku Asagi stone I bought and the Shoobie Doobie bang bang.
JNS japanesenaturalstones.com
So far in experimenting it's not a very fast stone, I make a mud with the Oozuku Nagura and then do a few sets of circle laps on the stone. After about 3 sets the mud is still it's original color, on my Kiita the mud has metal in it by this point.
