I really don't know what is the reason.
when i sharpen blade i usually try to get best out of steel.
i have notes lets say my last red imperial i honed on had very hard time finish on Any Japanese stones which i have.
As soon as i switch to escher work was done.
Now that razor is not something special (stainly steel, cast steel etc).
then i had couple more different makers same result.
we are talking only for last stage of honing last finishing strokes.
I get used to this already as soon as i cannot get what i want i switch the stones.
This makes my job a lot easier.

Sharpening part i have never notes any differences. lower grit stones just moves the steel .

My Oozuku Asagi I got from Maxim leaves a veery nice edge as well. I've only experimented with it a little, but I found that going from slurry to water worked quite well for me.

    Have Fun!

Very good question, I will experiment when I have time and report. I honestly have no idea what the out come would be.

EDIT: That took five minutes so I thought I would report right away.

The slurry released is all from the nakayama Kiita (yellow mud slurry).

This is not a good sign.
This means your Nakayama Kiita is useless until you send it to me and i could find out what is wrong with it.
without this process i wouldn't touch Nakayama.

    Sham,

The stone IS hard from what I can tell, I can't scratch it, but the Oozuku is harder still. Like we said though hardness and finess aren't the same. It takes a while to build slurry on the nakayama with tomonagura.

We will need to trade stones lol

RE: Maxim: do you know if he has more stones beyond what you see on his site? There's a suita now that looks very tempting, but by the time I have the money to buy it, it'll probably be gone. Now you've got me really interested in Oozuku asagis, incidentally!

    EDIt: it's an Oozuku suita

    Yes, he has more.

If you look in his blog you can see the oozuku I bough. Email him and he will let you know what he has and prices with size. He will also test them for you.

Before everyone goes crazy on Ozuko's, you may want to wait until Stefan and I get our shobie dobie's Asagis.

In case anyone is still suffering from Jnat Pron withdrawals here is a link to the Oozuku Asagi stone I bought and the Shoobie Doobie bang bang.

    JNS japanesenaturalstones.com

So far in experimenting it's not a very fast stone, I make a mud with the Oozuku Nagura and then do a few sets of circle laps on the stone. After about 3 sets the mud is still it's original color, on my Kiita the mud has metal in it by this point.

    Why wait?

If it's good enough for Dean, Frank and Sammy...... I'm getting one.
