According to Swaty, the short hone (5-1/8x2) is "for private use," the long hone (8x2) is "for barbers' use." (Sears, Roebuck & Co Catalog, 1912)

(EDIT: The hone illustrated in the catalog is the "Franz Swaty / Marburg Austria" two line hone.)
