Ok an update to how the stone works for me.

Maksim, when he tried his CF, mentioned that the stone works well with tmonagura, so I tried the method on mine.
I took a Fridour to the slurry and did ~60 circles each way , I go by eye so until the slurry darkened.
After that I diluted with water a few times doing sets of 10 x strokes, then finished on water with a hint of dish soap.
Stropped on leather and got a great edge, very sharp and very smooth. Actually sharper than what I am comfortable with so I did 7 passes on CrO ,which took off some of the bite. The stone will need more evaluation of course , with other grinds and steels , but I like the results so far.

I found on mine that going slurry like that to water finish left me with an edge much sharper than I'm comfortable with as well. Once I switched to oil it smoothed things out a bit. Haven't tried the toma nagura though - just raised slurry with a DMT.

yes I just did not feel like dealing with oil at that moment.

Damn, nice stone Stefan! I have a 10in Y/G Escher and I'm still jealous of your scores. What's wrong with us HAD people?

Too true. I don't miss the razors I've sold, but I do miss the stones. I need to get consistent enough to start offering a service, because I'm running out of my own stuff to use and I don't want to hoard razors. Hoarding stones on the other hand...

one thing I find interesting about mine is that it seems the top ~1cm is glued to the rest of the CF, I wonder if there was any purpose to do it this way or it separated at some point and was just put back in place

So far over 30 CFs went through my hands and yet have to see one glued. What you have on your hone is realy hard crud which sits at the level up to which the stone is set in the box. Degreasing usualy does not touch it. I ussualy scrape (not chisel) it of with the side edge of the old chisel. Often ot flakes off with little pressure and hone is not damaged.

I don't guys. 30 Charnleys...? I have more stones that I'm willing to admit too, and I'm finding now, that all I really need is my Escher. It's pretty much all I use these days, barring an accident. Gotta keep a bevel setter just in case. I'm not restoring, or buying any Ebay specials anymore. I don't do honing professionaly, unless someone needs a favor, I'm always willing to help anyone. All my razors are good to go, and I intend on keeping them that way. Recently, I had a Wonderedge that was crappy. I keep my Y/G Escher out, nothing fancy, 7x1.5, your standard Escher. It used to belong Lynn some time ago...Raised a moderate slurry, did some circles, some lapps, diluted, finished on water, stropped on SRD premium 1, and the blade is spectacular, I mean, really, really good. Not harsh, doesn't pull, just a pleasure to shave with, and this is the norm.

I understand why these stones were and are prized. If you don't like Escher, your not using it right. I'm positive, with my current razor stock, I can get away with only this Escher, and I intend to try. Glen and Lynn did the one stone honing, it works, and it'll work for you. Food for thought...Think what you can do with the thousands of dollars you spend on stones.

I can sell off my 90% stones, and probably retire....Buying all these stones truly is an addiction. We laugh and joke about it, but many people spend way too much money on rocks when all you really need is one. IMHO...

Disclaimer: I'm not knocking anyone that collects stones. Especially my good friend Stefan...I would help him in a heartbeat if he asked....
To each his own. I'm a collector too, I just sort of had a revalation recently....
