You know, the only two people who have held that stone are the buyer and the seller. The buyer has no ability to evaluate it, which leaves one person, the seller who can make a claim about the stone's properties that's not pure speculation. And since the seller is a persona non grata on this forum, this leaves nobody at present.
Obviously not all coticules are the same, or people are extremely gullible, otherwise there wouldn't be all this labeling of this vein and that vein, with prices of the coticules doubling since such labels became a major selling point.

Back to the original question, I don't see how cutting the 'tapered end' can make any difference to honing. If you don't want to use the end, simply don't drag the razor over it. Cutting the stone is an irreversible process, so I wouldn't do it until I have a very clear understanding of any benefit of doing so. May be a small piece would be good for a slurry, may be it wouldn't - that depends on how the hone works and as I stated in the beginning of the post, right now nobody on this forum knows that.

To echo gugi's thoughts in a way, try the stone out and see if you like it. If you like it and want to keep it, have the tail cut for a slurry stone if that's what you want. However, if you don't like it, it's worth more whole than cut.

I have the matching slurry stone to this bout. I am new to honing also and if I can finish a blade on a #3 bout then I think this stone is more than capable of being used. It will leave you with a very nice edge. The dimensions of mine are 85mm long, 23mm at small end, and 34mm at the large end. If you do not like the stone contact Jarrod and I'm sure he will be more than happy to exchange it for you or sell it and get your money back. You said you do not like the width of the stone so how is cutting the end of it off going to solve this? It is your stone do with it what you wish, but please don't cut it up.
