Thread: What natural stone creates a brownish green slurry?

The one with the red tiger stripes is beautiful I think. The pics don't really show it as well as I can see it. They came from Canada.

The are soft, easy to lap, and have chalk like slurry. Pale green. One showing black hairlines type inclusions, while the other has red stripes and black spots. Really cool rocks!

Well Lynn Idwall and CF are very hard stones so you say these are soft stones?right?

Definitely not LI or CF.

Look and sound more like some sort of coticule to me.

Yeah, they're soft by my estimate. I can chamfer the edges easily with 400 wetdry. I kinda tapped on them with my fingernail, trying to hear density vs. a coticule. But ofc that's really not very scientific. The sound was more dull, but completely worthless AFAIC. The slurry did look a little coticule like too. Could just be some weird green coticules huh? The honing stroke sounds more similar to DT. This could be the difference between a backed and unbacked coticule I'm hearing though. They definitely react to wetdry like coticule and BBW. Very easily shaped. The smell is not similar to coticule, but it could be the plaster I'm smelling. Well that's neat anyhow. A pair of green coticules. Interesting to me! Now I can start a "show us your green coticules" thread! :P

could it be a La Verte coticule

I don't know anything of the names of coticules. Not to say it's not important, but after my reading, I couldn't come to any hard and fast rules that had to do with the names. It seemed anywhere somebody put a vein name with a description of how their version of that vein name performed, it could have just as easily been replaced with the words, "my coticule" and been just as accurate. Even within vein named stones, there's remarkable differences it seems. So, you tell me. Could they be La Verte's? They do look like that kinda. So, I guess I better do some reading and see what I can learn about La Verte's. But just to kickstart my curiosity...Would that be a good thing? If they're La Verte? lol. I'll shave now, and see what that says. Wish me luck, as my honing skills are still quite raw it seems.

Shave test says I'm a lucky guy. But, there's a lot of extennuating circumstances to mention. Namely a synthetic stone progression, instead of India stone, to coticule. Oh I hate admitting that. lol. But it worked like wonderbread.

Gotta say I'm a bit embarassed for not supposing coticule earlier. I just never considered a green one before. I've bought from Jarrod, and am a member at coticule.be. Shameful I know. I have no clue it seems. Well when I bought it I thought it was coticule, but after cleaning it and finding green stones, I started thinking towards other stuff that was green, or so I thought. Anyhow, mystery solved. Thanks guys. What a cool thing to have. Of course, now I've gotta try my other coticules with oil. That really made a difference...or maybe it was the green tint or the tiger stripes...These things are so complicated! :P

I have a blue/grey coticule so I think they come in a wide variety of colors, especially the vintage ones.
