I've got a La Veinette that I wasn't very impressed with. It is a 'kosher' that I got from Ardennes a few years ago. I tried it, didn't like it and put it in the cabinet. Every now and again over a couple of years I would try it again. The last time I gave it a go was a few weeks ago. I created a medium slurry and diluted as I honed. Edge was superb. Characteristic smooth and comfortable ..... not crispy like a synthetic .. nor does it feel as sharp but will HHT and shaves great. Say that to say, I couldn't tell you what 'level' the stone is but sometimes we have to find the 'sweet spot' on these.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Yes, Jimmy. The pursuit of the sweet spot - I've hit it a few times - keeps me going. Two edges, out of more than 60, were right there w/ a nice asagi finish. If I'd not gotten those edges, I would have dismissed the coti as a romantic wank.
'Tried my 3rd edge on the BBW side of the Veinette and with no drama, got a much higher level of sharpness - more like a 12k. I think this stone just likes to taunt me. The BBW edge is a bit crispy, but there are plenty of remedies for that. In an attempt to get a bit more crispiness for one member, I had to return to the coti for some crispness (ironic) after the asagi gave it adequate sharpness. This hobby is just a madness sometimes! As the lovely bride would say: I've never suffered from mental illness. I've enjoyed every minute.

Thanked: 247My favorite is this one. This stone was found by me on just about my very first hone hunting expedition I ever went on. This stone cause the misplaced notion that I could find more with the proper application of effort, and vigilance. It also prompted a ridiculous ebay splurge for others to compare it with. Seven months, several hundred miles, and 200+ gallons of fuel later, I've never found another. Just think of what all that fuel could have bought in the classifieds. haha! Anyways, it's a naturally formed combo bout, right about 200 long by 40 wide. Hard and fine, slow with slurry, dead slow on water, and oh so special in my SR related memories.
