Thanked: 4Best Shave from my own honing!
First off I have to say thanks to the SRP members from helping me with honing questions. I believe I am beginning to get the honing process. Well I have been honing my J.A. Henkels on my 4k/8k and 12k nani. I went into shaving today as a shave test and I have to say wow. The razor did not pass a HHT but this was the sharpest razor I felt with no tugging. So moral of my story is it feels great to receive a irritation free bbs shave from my own honing, it is truly an accomplishment to achieve. Rather I can continue to hone like this is a different story. So thank you for helping a newbie like me.

Thanked: 10I definitely agree. I just hit that milestone myself this past week with a vintage Boker Edelweiss. I don't yet have a finishing stone (a coticule is on backorder at TPE), so I've been working with a King 1K, a 4K/8K Norton, and a couple of homemade bench hones using different grades of polishing compound. It is unbelieveably cool to get a close and comfortable shave with an edge you've produced yourself!

Hodges, Bravo! Anyone who hones can remember the rush when their own edge just gave them a great big smile while shaving. Its a great feeling.
I can only second the sentiment of gratitude to those patient souls who've helped me get started on the stones. Most of us owe them an aweful lot. I try to honor their kindness by doing likewise - helping other guys enjoy their edges and shaves. I hope each of us follows their path that way.
