    Nope not for me
Never tried using any sort of oil on my coticule, not fond of the idea, but I did try glycerin and it works well and rinses off easily, but it feels similiar to your method of rubbing the water off with your finger and honing on a thin film of water.

I've read in some old tome, maybe Moler's Barber Manual, that a thin oil is acceptable but I'm happy with the slurry and water. Even though I know oil won't hurt the stone the vety idea rubs me the wrong way.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

All the old coticules I have owned on their label or box say use water or oil. I have used one of my coticules with oil over fifty times and it's the same as when I bought the stone, it is not glazed or saturated at all. Glycerin works too as long as its not too diluted with water, otherwise the effect is lessened. Anyway it does always leave a better edge than just water and if you try it just once your stone will be fine. Wash it with soap or rub it with the slurry stone.

I now have seven coticules, they're the same as the day the came to me. Any stone that cane take oil will leave a better edge with oil over water. This includes cf stones, coticule, special stone only for good razors (pierre la lune aiguiser), arkansas, LM stones...

Other stones do not benefit as they absorb the oil and become saturated, lessening the cutting action of the stone over time.

Edit: this is definitely a ymmv thing, but I have not had issues and I Know others that have not had issues when testing this. Sorry to detour..

I've never used oil with my coticules but nearly every one I've bought (all vintage) have very obviously been used with it. Lapped off fine. WD40 you say, Disburden? That's nigh on heretical to my way of thinking, I think I have to try it.

I think I'm just prejudice against oil and straights...the way I'm doing it now seems to work very well so I'm not going to mess with it. Thanks for the input though.

This is Maksim of Japanesenaturalstones.com using WD40 on his Charnley forest stone:

I have read on a few websites about the CF being used with wd40 before...

It's all about what works for you, not what someone says shouldn't work for you.
    Cheers!

PLEASE...let's be serious, the step-son of course! The hound is gainfully employed, keeps the yard free of rodents and can take a chomp out of a foe on command!

And in case you're wondering, that's not the dog I'm speaking of, thats my dog Fred's little buddy Wiggies. Fred is a German Shorthair Pointer (GSP) -- a bird hound that's equally fond of red-meat.
