Is this a stone/hone that you've used before?

Did you lap the stone first.? Some will need more than others.

My norton had that in the beginning.
After lapping it a couple of times, it was gone. I think it may have been dirt particles that got stuck on the surface.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I did after lapping on sandpaper. Some grit got in my 4k side. Exactly as you described. A friend cleaned it off by rubbing 4k & 1k together for a couple seconds.

Thanked: 993Agree with everything above. If I remember correctly, I took about 1/8" of the 8k side off of mine before it was soft and ready to go.

The norton needs more lapping than other stones at first to get it glassy smooth, keep lappin.
