Atoma 2x3 1200g
What are you experiences with this credit card size plate. I bought one for the express purpose of generating slurry from the hone I'm using, (in lieu of a tomo or slurry stone or even DMT)
I have a full set of DMTs, including a well worn 325. This thing just seems so perfect for the task, and easy to use. I couldn't resist. Plus, it's Atoma. It's supposed to be better, right....? Does anyone use these small 2x3 pieces, mounted on Granite....?

I'm curious about the Atoma plates too. I didn't know they made a small one for slurry. I've heard good things about them but haven't gotten one yet.

zib, don't worry, you will like it, really, Atomas are worth their price. I have used almost 10 DMTs, and they are no match for an Atoma plate, not for me at least. I was always searching for something better than my DMTs, and since I have bought my Atoma I sold everything, and I am as happy now as I could.

Thanked: 1587Thanks for that Mainaman - I have only ever had the normal sized ones and wondered what these smaller ones were.
I cannot imagine these would not be as good as their larger-sized parents for making slurry. No good for lapping of course, but that was not your intent.

James,
Why would they not be as good for slurry making? I'm curious, smaller surface area? The reason I ask is, I can still return it.
These smaller Atoma's remind me of the credit card size DMT's, which some guys use for slurry making too. This is exactly why I made this post. I'd love to hear from someone who actually has one...

Thanked: 1587Sorry, I didn't word it very well. I mean that I think the smaller size should be just as good as the larger one for making slurry.

I'll give it a go. I actually have plenty of time to play around with it. The vendor was very willing to work with me after I expressed my concerns. I had no idea these were cut. I was under the impression Atoma made small size hones, just like DMT. I have 4 full size DMT plates. When they wear out, or become unusable, I'll spring for the Atoma plates. They do seem to be superior to DMT. This little guy looks perfect for slurrying vs the Credit card size DMT's. Then again, it could well be Apples and Oranges, like everything else in this hobby...YMMV.....
You could imagine my surprise when I opened the box up. Kinda like getting an ugly sweater for Christmas.....Last edited by zib; 05-30-2012 at 09:58 PM.
